‘Coach Prime’ has already proven he can develop elite talent from the ground up. What he accomplished with his sons, Shedeur and Shilo, setting them on their path toward a new era in the NFL, made it clear that his legendary achievements as a player still carry great influence with those under his guidance.
Continuing in his role as a developer of talent at the University of Colorado, Deion once stated that he preferred to coach young players rather than seasoned professionals – mainly because the younger ones actually listen to his instructions, whereas pros tend to live in a world of their own.
Looking to seal the deal with prospects in the final available weekend
This weekend marks the last official period within the NCAA calendar to recruit new talent for the team, and ‘Coach Prime’ and his staff are laser-focused on three particular prospects who could elevate the program to the level they’ve long envisioned since his arrival.
But who are the three players Deion Sanders and his coaching team are pursuing so intently? Here, we break down each one so you can keep an eye on them – and get to know them early should they commit to Colorado.
Shedeur Sanders forgets about trouble with the law and concentrates in another sport
CJ Sadler
Currently attending Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan, Sadler may not possess an imposing physique, but his on-field talent makes him a standout – the kind of athlete any college program would covet. He stands at 5’9 ” and weighs 185 pounds. He ranks No. 97 nationally and is the No. 7 overall athlete in the 2026 class. This gifted prospect has offers from Michigan, Alabama, and LSU. However, his only official visits so far have been to North Carolina, Maryland, and Colorado. His ability to score touchdowns, play as a defensive back, return kicks, and even throw passes is something Sanders sees as a major competitive advantage – and one he’d love to bring to Boulder.
Preston Ashley
A stellar four-star cornerback out of Mississippi, Ashley stands at 5’10” and weighs 170 pounds. Currently ranked ninth in his state, he’s evaluating offers from Florida State, Colorado, and Florida.
Although signs point to a lean toward the Seminoles, nothing is final. Colorado remains in his top three and will do everything in its power to win him over. Ashley is the kind of corner who has all the tools to thrive at the collegiate level: he’s quick, unpredictable, and if he grasps the system swiftly, his college career could take off in a flash.
Rodney Colton Jr.
Colton’s build is impressive from the first glance. At 6’1″ and 220 pounds, he’s already received offers from Georgia, Penn State, FSU, and Oregon. Though he was previously committed to South Carolina, he has since reopened his recruitment. He’s set for a whirlwind summer tour that includes visits to UCLA, SMU, Missouri, and Penn State, but perhaps it’ll be his stop in Boulder that captures his heart – and his commitment.
Colorado’s 2026 recruiting class currently ranks last in the Big 12 conference, with only two commitments. Every other program in the conference has at least six recruits secured.
But that doesn’t worry Deion Sanders. He knows how to move the pieces on the board to bring in the best available talent for his squad. The green light may still be on the horizon – and even if today it seems distant, there’s every reason to believe it’s within reach.
