Com a fase de grupos próximo do fim, os times começam a fazer contas para saber quem enfrentarão no mata-mata do Mundial de Clubes da Fifa. E a competição pode, inclusive, colocar frente a frente duas equipes brasileiras já nas oitavas de final, ou, até mesmo, um clássico carioca nas quartas, se os resultados colaborarem.
Como o chaveamento determina que os classificados do Grupo A se cruzem com os do Gupo B, Botafogo e Palmeiras podem se encontrar já nas oitavas de final da competição. Para isso, eles não podem avançar na mesma colocação — ou seja, se o time alvinegro terminar em primeiro, o alviverde precisa ficar em segundo, ou vice e versa.
Se o Botafogo terminar na primeira colocação e o Palmeiras em segundo, os times brasileiros vão para o lado direito da chave e podem encarar o Flamengo em uma eventual quartas de final. Isso porque o time rubro-negro já se classificou na liderança do Grupo D e está no lado direito do chaveamento da competição.
O time comandado por Filipe Luis encara o segundo lugar do Grupo C, que pode ser Benfica, Boca Juniors ou Bayern de Munique. Em caso de classificação, pode haver um duelo brasileiro nas quartas de final — e, eventualmente, um time do país na semifinal do Mundial de Clubes da Fifa.
Caso o Palmeiras garanta a liderança do Grupo A, o time de Abel Ferreira vai para o lado esquerdo da chave e só poderá encarar o Flamengo em uma eventual final. Neste cenário, o Botafogo — se passar em 1° do Grupo B — enfrentará Inter Miami, Porto ou Al Ahly, e só teremos um duelo brasileiro se os times cariocas se classificarem para as quartas de final.
O Fluminense, por sua vez, só encara um time brasileiro caso ambos avancem à semifinal. Isso acontece porque o tricolor está no Grupo F do torneio e enfrentará equipes dos Grupos E, G e H nas oitavas e em uma eventual quartas de final.
