Teď jste závod absolvoval kompletní, dlouho jste se držel v čelní skupince, pak jste začal odpadat. Jaká to byla zkušenost?
Vystartoval jsem opravdu zbrkle, do první obrátky jsem se snažil jet co nejrychleji a to mi v tom příšerném vedru ubralo síly. Kdybych zvolil trochu střídmější taktiku, když kluci chvílemi odpočívali, myslím, že bych se v té první skupině udržel déle. Ale nevím, jestli celou dobu. Jsem strašně přehřátý, mám na sobě ochlazovací ručník, vestu i šátek. Tohle byl opravdu křest ohněm.
Jak vám seděly mnohdy kontaktní boje o pozice?
Budu se muset omluvit Noru Voldovi, protože jsem do něj nechtěně dvakrát najel. Bylo to tím, že nejsem zvyklý na pádlování v téhle rychlosti, snad moji omluvu přijme. Ale ty dlouhé tratě u chlapů jsou specifické v tom, že se to hodně střídá na špici a ostatní odpočívají. A jak nás dojel Dán Pedersen, to byl můj konec, protože nejsem zvyklý na takové nástupy ze svého dlouhého táhlého záběru na kilometru. Zvlášť v tomhle vedru.
Půjdete do tohoto závodu ještě někdy?
Ne, nikdy, protože to bylo strašné… Ale za týden vám možná řeknu, že jsem se mýlil. Osmé místo není žádný zázrak ani ostuda, nic jsem od sebe nečekal.
I během závodu jste si říkal: Že já do toho šel?
Už celý den. Závodní adrenalin byl fuč ze soboty, kdy jsem se snažil ze sebe vydat sto procent na obou tratích a na dnešku to bylo znát. Trochu jsem si říkal, jestli na Anežku nepřijdou kontrakce a nebudu muset odjet. (úsměv) Kdybych to jel jako jediný závod na mistrovství Evropy, byl bych čerstvější a zajel líp, ale s ohledem na to, že pět kilometrů není olympijská disciplína a snad ani v dohledné době nebude, se na ni soustředit nebudu. Je to hnus a bolí to…
I s ohledem na blížící se narození potomka se teď do mistrovství světa v Miláně budete připravovat v Česku?
Převážně budu v Praze, kde je i podobnější voda té v Miláně, skoro celý červenec budu na Dukle. Pak se přesuneme na závěrečné soustředění do Kadaně, kde budu bez Anežky a prcka, závěrečné ladění a odlet směr Milán, kde by se ke mně měla Anežka připojit.
V Račicích jste byl zvolen jako jeden ze dvou zástupců sportovců do Evropské kanoistické asociace. Je to směr, kterým se chcete teď vydat?
Beru to trochu jako povinnost. Bohužel se mě některé věci dotýkají a nemůžu jen nečinně přihlížet. Občas, když s někým mluvím, mám na něj velký vliv a myslím, že by se dal využít ve směru zlepšení evropské i světové kanoistiky a boje za nás závodníky, co se týče udržitelnosti našeho krásného sportu v přírodě, a samozřejmě i za Českou republiku.
