Od střetu Rountreeho s Hillem se přitom očekávala vyrovnaná partie. Nakonec z toho bylo nepříliš atraktivní vítězství 35letého rodáka z Los Angeles, který u dvou sudích ovládl všech pět kol. „Už před zápasem jsem říkal, že jsem sem nepřišel s tím, abych Jamahala jakkoli podcenil. Můj plán byl mazaný. V zápase s Alexem Pereirou jsem udělal pár chyb, které mě stály zápas. Pokud chci vyhrávat, musím být chytrým profesionálním bojovníkem na té nejvyšší úrovni. Jedině tak uvažují skuteční šampioni,“ promluvil vítěz souboje, jenž soka několikrát poslal na lopatky.
Podle Karaivanova předvedl Rountree vyspělý výkon. „Bylo to od něj hodně opatrné a taktické, ale asi se není čemu divit. V sázce bylo hodně. Byl to takový srovnávací zápas dvou titulových vyzyvatelů. Navíc sám Hillovi po zápase řekl, že se mu ho nedařilo načíst. Nakonec z toho bylo zasloužené vítězství,“ hodnotí pro Sport.cz manažer a trenér někdejšího šampiona Procházky. „Strategický, trpělivý a chytrý. Možná až příliš dynamický, ale rozhodně krásný výkon,“ napsal hostěradický bijec na sociální platformě X.
Výsledek je stěžejní i pro celý žebříček polotěžké váhy. Poražený Hill, jenž padl podruhé za sebou, s jistotou opustí předzápasové čtvrté místo, kde by jej měl nahradit právě Rountree. Znamenalo by to tak skvělou pozici atakující titulovou šanci. „Bitvě o titul se rozhodně přiblížil, ale zatím nevíme, co bude dál. Budeme to řešit až se vrátíme do USA,“ nezacházel do detailů šéf UFC Dana White.
Rountree, jenž o pás šampiona bojoval už loni v říjnu, kdy po sympatickém výkonu nakonec nestačil na již bývalého krále polotěžké váhy Pereiru, má však jasno. „Chci se stát šampionem. Vezmu cokoliv, co mě k titulu dostane. Klidně se utkám s Ankalajevem (aktuální šampion), ale pokud mám ještě předtím bojovat s někým jiným, tak to udělám. Jsem pro. Chci cokoliv, co mě přiblíží další titulové šanci,“ sršel odhodláním.
Zatím není jasné, kdo bude prvním vyzyvatelem pro Ankalajeva. Ruský bijec si přeje odvetu s Jihoameričanem Pereirou, kterému letos v březnu přesekl nadvládu a porazil jej na body. Zcela bez šancí není ani Procházka, který už jednu nabídku na souboj o titul shodil ze stolu. Místo červnového turnaje UFC 317 se rozhodl dokončit magisterské studium, závěrečné zkoušky ho čekají 24. června.
„Věřím, že Pereira nebude bojovat s Ankalajevem. Můj manažer se proto snaží pokračovat v jednání o Ankalajevovi,“ promluvil pro Full Violence Procházka. „Pokud se s ním Alex ale utká, já si to rozdám s někým jiným a poté se budu soustředit na Ankalajeva,“ nastínil nejúspěšnější český bijec, jenž by se do klece měl vrátit zhruba v říjnu.
Procházka, dvojka divize, by se však mohl postavit i zmíněnému Rountreemu, který po aktualizaci žebříčků patrně bude jen o dvě místa hůře postaveným bijcem. „Budeme to řešit. Jestli bude Khalil vhodný soupeř, či ne, to zjistíme v nejbližších dnech či týdnech,“ poodkryl Karaivanov.
