Time espanhol faz gol na reta final do segundo tempo, mas fica de fora da competição pelo critério de desempate
Nesta segunda-feira (23), o Botafogo perdeu para o Atlético de Madrid por 1 a 0, mas confirmou a vaga na vice-liderança do grupo B da Copa do Mundo de Clubes da Fifa. Pelo critério de desempate, o clube carioca ficou abaixo do PSG e acima do time da capital espanhola.
Botafogo quase abre o placar no primeiro tempo
O Glorioso começou bem o jogo e teve mais chances claras de gols nos primeiros 15 minutos, especialmente com Savarino, que perdeu um gol cara a cara, e Artur, em bola desviada que quase enganou o goleiro adversário. O Atlético sentiu dificuldades para se impor e foi ter oportunidades apenas na reta final do primeiro tempo.
O destaque individual foi Igor Jesus. Ele segurou bem a bola no campo ofensivo, fez o pivô e achou passes em profundidade. O sistema defensivo, por sua vez, mais uma vez funcionou bem, assim como no jogo contra o PSG.
Atlético vence, mas não avança
Precisando da vitória para sonhar com a classificação, o time espanhol partiu para cima na segunda etapa. Mesmo tendo mais ações ofensivas e posse de bola, a equipe comandada por Diego Simeone seguiu criando pouco. O time de Renato Paiva se defendeu bem e ameaçou por volta dos 20 minutos do segundo tempo, com de Igor Jesus.
Aos 87 minutos, Antoine Griezmann finalizou de esquerda na grande área e reacendeu as esperanças do Atlético, mas isso não foi suficiente e o time europeu foi eliminado.
PSG também se classifica
Atual campeão da Champions Legue, o Paris Saint-Germain venceu o Seattle Sounders por 2 a 0 e também garantiu vaga na próxima fase do Mundial de Clubes. Agora, a equipe francesa espera a definição do grupo A para conhecer o rival nas oitavas de final.
O Palmeiras encara o Inter Miami de Lionel Messi mais tarde, e o Porto duela com o Al-Ahly, do Egito. O primeiro do grupo A enfrenta o segundo do B nas oitavas, enquanto o segundo do A joga com o primeiro do B.
