The number 88 is one of the most iconic in NFL history, and if you add the variable of using it in a Dallas Cowboys jersey, well you’re talking about legendary status. Ceedee Lamb is the current 88 for America’s Team, and he certainly is living up to the level and privilege of wearing that jersey.
Looking to achieve his fifth consecutive season topping 1,000 receiving yards and consolidating himself as a top 3 player at his position in the league, Lamb is on the prime years of his career with the Cowboys. Before him, some big names raised the bar of wearing the 88 jersey: Drew Pearson, Michael Irvin and Dez Bryant are comparisons Lamb would surely approve.

Ceedee Lamb is aware of the 88 aura
This past weekend, Ceedee Lamb was part of the Fanatics Fest events held up in New York City. In a forum where he was interviewed along fellow NFL wide receivers Davante Adams and Tyreek Hill, the Cowboys pass catcher was asked about the meaning of wearing number 88 for the franchise,” Legacy“, responded Ceedee, “those guys before me and the things that they’ve done in that jersey number, obviously it holds me to a high standard.”
The former Oklahoma Sooner has clear context of what he can and should do to live up to the expectations of his peers. “I just want to raise the bar a little bit, you know. So, just being the youngest in the group and listening to everything that they say…we had plenty of talks, talking to Dez, talking to Drew, talking to Mike. I’ve had plenty of talks with Mike and y’all know how that went”, declared Lamb with some laughing at the end.

Having figures like Michael Irvin, Drew Pearson, both Hall of Famers and Super Bowl champions, and Dez Bryant, the Cowboys’ all time leader in receiving touchdowns (73), is a privilege no doubt. The advice and guidance this guys can give to an NFL player today is pure gold, and Lamb knows it. “(Michael Irvin) I love him. He is very high energetic. I love them all, they set the bar for me.”
“Realistically, just understanding what I got to do week in and week out. I’m not just wearing a jersey for myself, but, obviously everybody else in between. I hope I’m making them proud right now.” With the start he has had to his career, no doubt there are multiple individuals in Cowboys world that are really proud of him. Lamb now goes into his 6th season in the NFL, not just with individual success in his mind, but to finally make this the year for the Dallas Cowboys.
