„Byl jsem tehdy ve velkých problémech. Hodně jsem pil, ubližoval si. Proto jsem také nosil dlouhé rukávy, abych zakryl rány,“ líčil Kyrgios a dodal: „Před zápasem s Nadalem jsem byl v psychiatrické léčebně a druhý den mě čekal tenhle duel.“
Pro Australana je na blížícím se Wimbledonu favoritem Španěl Carlos Alcaraz, který v neděli porazil ve finále turnaje v Londýně Jiřího Lehečku. Kyrgios byl také vyřazen z okruhu komentátorů pro BBC, a to kvůli loňskému rozsudku za strčení do své přítelkyně při hádce. „Tehdy jsem se nezachoval správně a velmi mě to mrzí. Každopádně ta věc s BBC je spíš ztráta pro ně než pro mě.“
Také přiznal, že Wimbledon je pro něj zvláštním místem. „Je to první grandslam, kde jsem se prosadil. Pokaždé když zde vstoupíte na kurt, je znát ta energie a aura. Je to tenisový vrchol. Ale ne vždy se tam cítím dobře, protože se nechovám jako normální tenista. Cítím se tam jako sněhulák v poušti, ale užívám si to,“ připustil Kyrgios.
Zkušený tenista doufá, že se dá brzy zdravotně do pořádku a objeví se na turnajích v Americe včetně US Open.
