Jon Jones reportedly chillingly “threatened” police while intoxicated after “car wreck”

Jon Jones keeps stealing the headlines, but this time it’s not for his unexpected retirement, but for an “altercation” with the police.

Dana White announced at a press conference the 37-year-old former UFC World Heavyweight Champion’s decision to hang up his gloves: “Jon Jones is retiring,” he said after UFC Baku. Not even 24 hours had passed since the news broke when it was revealed that the UFC legend is embroiled in legal trouble, as he faces a misdemeanor charge for fleeing the scene of an accident.

UFC legend Jon Jones sends an arrogant fan to the hospital with a massive kick in resurfaced video

The accident and the “Jones call”

The event reportedly occurred in New Mexico in Albuquerque on Feb. 21, but a video captured by a police officer’s body cameras would further “incriminate” him.

In the footage, an unidentified woman in the wrecked car tells police officers that Jones was driving the car and fled after the accident.

She then calls a person on a cell phone and extended it to the cop saying the UFC legend was on the other end of the call. However, to the officers’ surprise, this person appeared to be in an inebriated state and began to threaten them loudly and aggressively: “My brothers, they kill people for way less. They slit throats, they’re the most evil people you’ll ever meet… guess what? guess what? You won’t be the first guy this year… you’ll be the second one.”

After these words, officers wanted to determine whether or not it was Jones, but the person on the other end of the line would not reveal his identity.

The word from Jones’ lawyers

Following the weeks-long investigation, on June 17 Jon was charged with a misdemeanor count of fleeing the accident. As a result, the former UFC World Heavyweight Champion is scheduled to appear in court next month on July 24 for arraignment on bail.

Christopher Dodd, Jones’ lawyer was upset with the authorities who he criticized for the way the investigation was conducted: “Jon was not driving that night; he wasn’t in the car,” Dodd began by saying in dialogue with TMZ Sports.

It appears that an intoxicated woman used a false allegation against Jon to avoid being arrested for DWI, and the police fell for it. Based on the criminal complaint, it looks like they went so far as to seek a warrant for Jon’s cell phone records while conducting a misdemeanor traffic investigation. I have never heard of such a thing,” he emphasized.

He further stated that what happened has him shocked, “It is truly unbelievable that the police would waste this amount of resources on such a case,” he continued.

Puzzled by the accusation against his client, the lawyer confirmed that he has a theory and that they will go to the end to prove Jon’s innocence: “The only thing I can think of is that the police were targeting Jon for improper purposes. We will get to the bottom of it and make sure that this baseless case is dismissed.”
