Olympique Lyon muss den bitteren Gang in die 2. Liga antreten. Der Zwangsabstieg wurde am Dienstagabend vom Verband offiziell verkündet.
Die DNCG, die für die finanzielle Überwachung im französischen Fußball zuständig ist, gab in einer Pressemitteilung bekannt: „Im Rahmen der Prüfung der Situation der Vereine für die Sportsaison 2025/2026 hat die Kommission für die Kontrolle der Profivereine gemäß Artikel 11 der D.N.C.G.-Regeln die folgenden Entscheidungen getroffen: Lyon – Herabstufung in die Ligue 2.“
Ein harter Schlag für den Traditionsverein, der nun in der kommenden Saison in der zweiten Liga antreten muss.

Lyon kann laut verschiedenen Medienberichten noch Berufung gegen die Entscheidung einlegen.
Es ist ein Hammer – doch so ganz überraschend dürfte er die Lyon-Bosse nicht treffen.
Denn: Bereits im November wurde gegen den einstigen Serienmeister (zwischen 2002 und 2008 siebenmal in Folge französischer Meister) eine Transfer-Sperre verhängt. Kein Wunder, bei mehr als 500 Millionen Euro Schulden.
Schon damals war klar, dass Lyon die Schulden bis zum Saisonende drastisch reduzieren muss – gelungen ist dies offensichtlich nicht. Und das trotz des Verkaufs von Mittelfeld-Star Rayan Cherki, der für rund 40 Millionen Euro zu Manchester City wechselte.

Besonders bitter: Lyon landete am Ende der vergangenen Saison auf Rang 6, qualifizierte sich damit für die Europa League.
Es ist bereits der zweite Zwangsabstieg für einen französischen Traditionsklub binnen zweier Spielzeiten. Im Sommer 2024 wurde Girondins Bordeaux (Meister von 2009) aus der zweiten Liga in die drittklassige Championnat National versetzt. In der Folge löste der Klub sein Nachwuchsleistungszentrum auf, gab nach 87 Jahren außerdem seinen Profi-Status auf. Die Folge: der Absturz in die viertklassige Championnat National 2.
Könnte es also noch schlimmer kommen für Lyon?
Dafür könnte sprechen: Bordeaux hat mit 370 Mio. Euro Schulden immer noch über 100 Mio. weniger als der stolze Traditions-Klub.
