Deshaun Watson is not going through the best of times. Not only is he recovering from an injury, but the team he belongs to could do without him.
Injuries have not helped the Cleveland Browns quarterback’s career. After his third season with the team and playing only seven games, a new Achilles tendon injury got in the way of his career. And not only that: Watson suffered a second tendon rupture while he was in rehabilitation.
This has cast doubt on his availability and performance for the 2025 season. In addition, the arrival of Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel has further opened up the field for Kevin Stefanski to not only deliberate between Joe Flacco and Kenny Pickett, but to have four candidates to fill Deshaun’s position.
The words of Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, spoken in March, do not help his situation either. The 71-year-old businessman described the Watson trade as a “big swing and miss.” As if that weren’t enough, a new prediction sinks him even further.
Browns part ways with Watson, but he has a plan

Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com did not sugarcoat the situation and believes that the quarterback has no more plays left to show Cleveland Browns fans.
“I do not see him playing ball for the Cleveland Browns anymore,” Cabot said. Therefore, the position would be open for Sanders, Gabriel, Flacco, or Pickett.
In three years, he has only played in 19 games, but he has caused more headaches than that. Last season, he racked up 1,148 passing yards, 5 passing TDs, and 3 interceptions in 7 games. However, if he recovers and wants to return to the field, it would present a big problem for the Browns.
According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk last week, if he gets a clean bill of health, “that’s going to complicate Cleveland’s plan this year.”
“They have an insurance policy if he’s unable to play because of his twice-torn Achilles tendon. They’d get back a lot of cash, they’d recover a lot of cap space, and they don’t really need him,” Florio began explaining.
However, he didn’t stop there, as Mike warned that Watson would not sit idly by and that “He could eventually file a grievance” in this case.
This would imply a battle for reason and truth, because while the team denies his recovery, he would argue that he is healthy. “If Deshaun Watson were to win, the Browns would either have to put him on the roster, trade him, or cut him. It’s that simple.”
The truth is that neither party has commented on the matter, and as long as he remains sidelined due to his injury, we will not know Deshaun’s future with the team.
