O Vasco teve um início de retomada no seu futebol sob o comando do técnico Fernando Diniz. Mas, até o momento, nenhuma negociação está encaminhada para o próximo período de transferências. A partir do 10 de julho, novos jogadores poderão ser registrados para as disputas do segundo semestre.
Satisfeito com as peças que tem no time titular, o comandante já teria pedido ao diretor executivo de futebol Admar Lopes que não negocie nenhum dos atletas que mais são utilizados. Dessa maneira, Diniz acredita que pode alcançar bons resultados e um desempenho ainda melhor após o retorno do futebol brasileiro.

E, por falar em mercado, o nome de um meio-campista está sendo bastante ligado ao Gigante da Colina: trata-se do volante Thiago Mendes, de 33 anos. Em fim de contrato com o Al-Rayyan, do Catar, o experiente jogador poderia chegar sem custos ao Vasco, que pagaria somente os salários do atleta.
Nas redes sociais, o que preocupou os torcedores vascaínos é a baixa sequência de jogos de Thiago Mendes. Ele soma apenas quatro partidas nos últimos três meses: foram dois jogos disputados em março e outros dois em maio. Na temporada, o volante entrou em campo em 11 oportunidades, sem gols ou assistências registradas.

Revelado pelas categorias de base do Goiás, Thiago Mendes rapidamente conseguiu destaque vestindo a camisa do Esmeraldino. Depois, chamou a atenção do São Paulo, que contratou o atleta para a temporada de 2015. Ele permaneceu no Morumbis por três anos até ser negociado junto ao Lille, da França.
Ainda no país europeu, vestiu a camisa do Lyon, onde atuou por quatro temporadas. Recentemente, ele foi vendido ao Al-Rayyan, do Catar, onde disputou apenas 33 jogos em duas temporadas, número baixo se comparado ao número de partidas que os principais times do futebol brasileiro têm.
