After being selected in the second round of the 2022 Draft, George Pickens had an immediate impact with the Pittsburgh Steelers, quickly becoming the team’s top receiver. However, his attitude gradually damaged his relationship with Head Coach Mike Tomlin, and he ended up being traded three years later.

Over three seasons, George Pickens recorded 174 receptions for 2,841 yards and 12 touchdowns. In the past season alone, he had 3 touchdowns and 900 yards in what was a notable year, especially considering the Steelers’ offense-led by Russell Wilson and Justin Fields-was very conservative.
Despite his impressive stats, the Steelers could no longer tolerate Pickens’ behavior and ended up trading him to the Dallas Cowboys in exchange for a third-round pick. In Dallas, Pickens will become the number two receiver alongside CeeDee Lamb-something the Cowboys urgently needed.
George Pickens also skipped a community event in Pittsburgh
In Pittsburgh, criticism toward George Pickens continues-not now for his behavior with the team, but because he failed to attend a youth football camp at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, an event that had completely sold out.
The event organizer, TruEdge Sports, reached out to Pickens and his team to confirm whether he still planned to attend despite having been traded to the Cowboys. The response was that he would still go, but a week before the event, they backed out and said the receiver would not attend.
“Our team at TruEdge was fully prepared to hold the camp this Saturday because we were led to believe George would honor his commitment. His sudden decision to withdraw not only reflects a disappointing lack of responsibility, but also shows a lack of consideration for the families and children who were excited to meet him. We are incredibly disappointed by his actions, which do not reflect the goals or values of TruEdge Sports,” the organization said in a statement.
In George Pickens’ place, Steelers tight end Pat Freiermuth will attend and try to involve more players. As for Pickens, he is now fully focused on his time with the Cowboys, looking to surpass his previous numbers in hopes of landing a big contract with Dallas or elsewhere in 2026.
