Dortmund und das Verletzungspech – es geht schon wieder los!
Im finalen Gruppenspiel bei der Fifa-Klub-WM gegen den südkoreanischen Klub Ulsan HD (1:0) musste der BVB bereits auf Jamie Gittens (20/Erkältung) und Marcel Sabitzer (31/Knieprobleme) verzichten. Turnier-Kapitän Julian Brandt (29) konnte spielen, aber mit einer auffälligen Schiene um sein Handgelenk.
BVB-Star überrascht mit Handbruch
Diese trug er schon beim 4:3 über Mamelodi Sundowns. Die Ursache und wie schlimm es wirklich ist, verriet Brandt erst jetzt: „Ich habe mir im Spiel gegen Fluminense in der 10. Minute das Handgelenk gebrochen. Ich bin ausgerutscht und einfach unglücklich gelandet.“ Im ersten Gruppenspiel vergangene Woche in New York hatte sich Brandt davon allerdings nichts anmerken lassen.

Nun die offizielle Diagnose: Brandt hat eine Kahnbeinfraktur. Kovac erklärte: „Ich hatte das auch mal. Man muss eine Manschette tragen, bei der der Daumen eingeklemmt wird. Wir werden jetzt noch einmal untersuchen, ob sich etwas verschoben hat.“ Falls ja, droht Brandt sogar eine Operation. Nach der Rückreise ins Team-Quartier in Fort Lauderdale unterzieht er sich heute einem genauen Check der Ärzte.

Brandt will im Achtelfinale am kommenden Dienstag (21 Uhr Ortszeit) im klimatisierten Mercedes-Benz-Stadium in Atlanta unbedingt auf dem Platz stehen, sagt über das kommende Spiel: „Auf bessere Temperaturen wette ich jetzt noch nicht. Aber jetzt wird es natürlich interessant, wenn die K.o.-Phase beginnt, ist es noch mal ein ganz anderer Kitzel. Die Gruppenphase ist vorbei, jetzt wird es ein Überlebenskampf.“
Klar ist: Nach den erfolgreichen, aber spielerisch überschaubaren drei Gruppenspielen benötigt Borussia Dortmund nun eine klare Leistungssteigerung.
