Abel Ferreira, antes de Palmeiras x Botafogo, fez questão de blindar Estêvão. Perto de chegar ao Chelsea, o jovem externou que “se imagina” na Inglaterra, motivo pelo qual vem sendo difícil manter o foco a serviço do Verdão. Avaliando que não é fácil encarar uma mudança de vida com pouca idade, o português sinalizou a prioridade do clube em cuidar dos atletas e prevenir eventuais sobrecargas mentais.
“Isso é um copo meio cheio. Às vezes, é um exercício de empatia. Se todos nós fizéssemos um esforço de se colocar no lugar dele… fez 18 anos há meia dúzia de dias. Tem a idade da minha filha, que vai sair agora de casa. O Palmeiras cuida, protege e ajuda a crescer. Se todos nós fizermos um exercício de empatia, iriam perceber que o que ele está sentindo é natural. Ele é tão puro e ingênuo que disse aquilo que está realmente sentindo. É normal. “, disse Abel Ferreira, em coletiva de imprensa.
Ciente de que Estêvão se encontra próximo da despedida, Abel Ferreira espera desfrutar dos últimos momentos dirigindo o camisa 41. Aproveitando o gancho, o treinador do Palmeiras reprovou o comportamento dos profissionais da imprensa em julgar um dos jogadores com maior potencial do futebol brasileiro.
“Eu não retiro uma vírgula daquilo que eu disse. Enquanto estiver com ele, vou desfrutar de vê-lo jogar. Ou já esqueceram do que ele fez com 18 anos? É normal o que ele está sentindo. Não podemos esquecer o tanto que ele nos deu. Fico triste quando não valorizamos o que é nosso. Essa responsabilidade é vossa, não é minha.”, prosseguiu.

Antes de Estêvão, Endrick atravessou uma situação parecida durante os últimos meses no Palmeiras. Comprado pelo Real Madrid, o atacante teve que lidar com a ansiedade de atuar na Europa, mas o trabalho conjunto da diretoria, comissão técnica e demais funcionários manteve o atleta focado na equipe paulista.
“Ao contrário de muitos clubes, o Palmeiras cuida dos seus jogadores. Por isso que fazemos tantas vendas. Lembram o que aconteceu com o Endrick? Quando ele não jogava, alguns de vocês mandavam ele ir para a equipe B. Só que o Palmeiras cuida dos mais novos e dos mais velhos.”, afirmou.
Abel Ferreira não confirma posicionamento de Estêvão
Embora não tenha brilhado ao longo da fase de grupos do Mundial, Estêvão deve seguir como titular do Palmeiras. Sem dar pistas do posicionamento do atacante, capaz de jogar em três funções diferentes, Abel Ferreira indicou que a decisão será tomada com base nos estudos atrelados ao Botafogo.
“Depende da verticalidade que eu quero dar ao jogo. Ele é um desequilibrador, seja por dentro ou por fora. Se eu manter pelo direito, vai dar movimentos interiores para puxar para o pé esquerdo. Se manter no meio, vai dar movimentos verticais em direção a baliza. Se estiver pela esquerda, vai dar largura e profundidade pelo lado esquerdo. Em relação ao rendimento, o que aconteceu com ele no primeiro jogo? Não tenho mais nada a dizer, foram vocês que escolheram (melhor em campo), não fui eu.”, externou.
