Tom Brady, the seven-time Super Bowl champion, has shifted his focus to the business side of football as he helps run the Las Vegas Raiders.
He’s under no illusions of the challenge at the Allegiant Stadium heading into the 2025/26 NFL season.
As the newest minority owner of the franchise, he’s already weighing in on the team’s direction during his first NFL offseason in this role as he is keen to make an immediate impression in Nevada.
The ex-New England Patriots‘ ace quarterback offered a cold assessment of the AFC West, aware of the challenge of the Kansas City Chiefs – who have won the division every single season since 2016.
“I’ve loved it,” Brady told Raiders.com of his new role. “And, again, just trying to contribute in the ways I can to help the team be the best they can be, on and off the field.
“We’ve got a great group of people and our goal is to, you know, win a lot of football games. You’ve got to work hard at it, and it’s all earned and we’ve got a tough division.
“There’s a lot of good opponents we face. But it’s going to be up to the guys and their daily commitment to doing the right things.”
It’s not just the Chiefs to watch out for either as the Los Angeles Chargers and Denver Broncos both earned playoff berths last time out and have improved their rosters too, meaning they could also be forces.
Fortunately for the Raiders, they seem to have gotten on top of the quarterback problem that has plagued them in recent seasons as they secured Geno Smith on a multi-year deal from the Seattle Seahawks.
They also added Ashton Jeanty, a rookie running back from the Boise State Broncos program who produced 2601 rushing yards for 29 touchdowns in the 2024/25 NCAA season and was picked sixth overall.
Kansas City offensive line could give Raiders AFC West chance: Can the Chiefs be stopped?
The Chiefs may face their toughest challenge in years due to questions surrounding their offensive line, following Super Bowl LIX, when the Philadelphia Eagles exposed Kansas City‘s protection issues.
Mahomes, the 29-year-old quarterback, who boasts three Super Bowl rings, two NFL MVP honors and three Super Bowl MVP picks, was sacked six times on the night and even tossed a pick-six as he had no answers to Nick Sirianni‘s defense in New Orleans.
Now, with their All-Pro guard Joe Thuney gone to the Chicago Bears, the Chiefs are relying on unproven players to step up in the form of Josh Simmons and the former San Francisco 49ers‘ tackle, Jaylon Moore.
They are expected to rotate at left tackle and are charged with the crucial task of protecting Mahomes‘ blind side, meaning the pressure on these new linemen is immense.
If Kansas City’s line continues to falter, it opens the door for contenders like the Chargers, Broncos, and Raiders to close the gap. So, after nearly a decade of dominance, the Chiefs may finally be vulnerable in the AFC West.
