Shedeur Sanders is locked in a tight battle with three other quarterbacks for the starting spot with the Cleveland Browns. However, according to former wide receiver TJ Houshmandzadeh, the team’s coaching staff may have already made up its mind on who the top two options are-and in his view, Deion Sanders’ son is not among them.
In a recent conversation with former Denver Broncos star Shannon Sharpe on his podcast, Houshmandzadeh revealed that he has inside information suggesting the competition for the starting role is not being conducted fairly.
And it’s not simply that having a big name automatically earns someone a shot at being the face of the offense. Shedeur Sanders must still prove he has the talent, poise, and mental and physical toughness to lead the Browns’ offense at the professional level.
That said, it appears the job is already leaning toward Kenny Pickett, who has reportedly impressed head coach Kevin Stefanski the most. As for the backup spot, veteran Joe Flacco seems like the likely candidate to secure it. While nothing has been officially confirmed, early indications show clear preferences taking shape within the organization.
A gloomy outlook ahead for Shedeur Sanders
The rookies fighting for the quarterback position have a long way to go, and Shedeur-despite drawing the most attention-is not the only one in the race. Dillon Gabriel remains in contention and continues to make his case in training camp.
As mentioned earlier, it seems the top two slots have already been claimed, and with that, a roster cut may be looming for the rookies who entered the league this year.
Still, even with the odds stacked against them, none of these young quarterbacks should feel defeated. The NFL is full of unexpected turns, and any shift in the current scenario could end up benefiting one of them.

Which rookie has the edge?
Multiple reports have already surfaced evaluating the performance of both rookies, Shedeur Sanders and Dillon Gabriel, with differing takes on their showings in training camp.
Some observers believe Sanders possesses better tools than Gabriel, while others are more impressed with Gabriel’s poise and decision-making.
For now, the road seems blocked for both, especially after Diontae Johnson stated that it’s looking increasingly likely that Kenny Pickett will be the one leading the offense. With that in mind, all the rookies can do is continue working hard and wait patiently for an opportunity-however small-that may present itself.
