Wie die portugiesische Zeitung „O Jogo“ berichtet, hat der schwedische Stürmer von Sporting Lissabon Sonderurlaub erhalten und darf eine Woche später ins Sommertraining einsteigen – der offizielle Start ist der 1. Juli. Offiziell wegen seiner Nationalmannschaftseinsätze. Doch tatsächlich könnte mehr dahinterstecken. Sondieren beide Parteien die Lage und brauchen mehr Zeit?
Denn Gyökeres soll laut Medienberichten sogar einen Streik angedroht haben, um seinen Wechsel in die Premier League zu erzwingen. Der 27-Jährige steht im Fokus mehrerer Topklubs – Arsenal, Manchester United und Liverpool haben bereits Interesse bekundet.

Ob seine verspätete Rückkehr wirklich mit einem angeblichen Fitnessproblem im Nationalteam zu tun hat, ist unklar. Zwar wurde Gyökeres zuletzt aus Schwedens Kader gestrichen, doch es ist nicht bestätigt, dass dies der Grund für die Freistellung vom Trainingsauftakt war.
