Oscar De La Hoya asks for help for bipolar Ryan Garcia after aggressive attack against him

The tense and volatile relationship between boxer Ryan Garcia and his promoter Oscar de la Hoya has once again erupted publicly, with a flurry of accusations on social media reflecting a breakdown in a relationship that once represented one of the most promising alliances in professional boxing.

Just weeks after appearing to be in apparent harmony, both protagonists have launched reproaches, indirects and publications with a clear recipient. Garcia, 26, unleashed a series of incendiary messages on his Instagram and Twitter accounts, where he lashed out at De La Hoya and his promoter, Golden Boy Promotions.

Among his most aggressive posts, Garcia wrote:

“I know why Oscar is a bitch in people’s eyes, and that’s a fact. I can’t wait to get away from that fake bitch. I’m going to show up and win, like I did against all his shitty fighters.”

In another message, loaded with personal insults, he added:

“Fuck Golden Boy Promotions” Ryan Garcia

“Oscar diddy jota” Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia insults Oscar de la Hoya

And in what appears to be a direct message leaked by De La Hoya,Garcia allegedly wrote an expletive-filled message aimed at the promoter. In this message, you can see the degree of intensity to which the discussion between the two has escalated, where Ryan Garcia, in addition to insulting Oscar de la Hoya, insinuates that boxers such as Canelo Alvarez and Berlanga would also have ended working relationships with De La Hoya on bad terms.

Oscar De La Hoya responds to Ryan Garcia’s insults

Faced with this series of attacks, Oscar de la Hoya did not remain silent. The former boxer and promoter responded publicly through his social networks with a statement that surprised by its clinical tone:

“Unfortunately, Ryan Garcia is having another episode. Ten days ago he was talking about God and finding his way, and tonight he sends me this diatribe while watching his Golden Boy teammates win. Bipolar disorder is very serious and I hope he gets the help he needs.” Oscar de la Hoya.

De La Hoya’s response once again raises concerns about Garcia’s mental health, who in the past has acknowledged dealing with anxiety and depression issues. However, this direct reference to a possible diagnosis of bipolar disorder has not been confirmed by the fighter himself or by medical professionals.

What happened between Oscar De La Hoya and Ryan Garcia?

The relationship between the two has become increasingly strained since Garcia‘s defeat to Gervonta Davis in April 2023. After that fight, Garcia accused De La Hoya of abandoning him at a crucial moment.

Since then, there have been cross-lawsuits, contract claims, and disagreements over the direction of his career. The recent defeat to Rolando “Rolly” Romero, and the subsequent controversy over Garcia’s positive doping test after beating Devin Haney, have only exacerbated the situation.

While Golden Boy tries to salvage what is left of a strained professional relationship, Ryan Garcia seems determined to sever ties once and for all. However, the form and tone of his messages have raised concerns, even among his followers, who do not know if it is a pressure strategy or if the boxer really needs medical attention.
