The rivalry between NFL star Tyreek Hill and Olympic track and field champion Noah Lyles reached a new level this weekend, after Hill took part in a sprint race and beat Lyles’ younger brother Josephus, thus stoking the flames of their media confrontation and generating even more controversy after the suspension of the original race.
The Miami Dolphins receiver, known for his explosive speed, competed in the 100 meters at the ATX Sprint Classic in Austin, Texas. In an impressive display of speed, Hill clocked a time of 10.10 seconds, a new personal best for him. With this result, he finished fourth in his qualifying heat and most notably, crossed the finish line ahead of Josephus Lyles, who completed the race in 10.25 seconds.
A direct message to Noah Lyles
The victory over his rival’s brother did not go unnoticed. Immediately after the race, Hill used his social media platform to send a clear message to Noah Lyles. In an Instagram video, he was seen shaking Josephus’ hand, before showing a handwritten note that read defiantly: “Noah could never”.
The rivalry between the two athletes has been growing in recent weeks and Hill has not hesitated to share his opinion on the matter. In a recent appearance on Johnny Manziel’s “Glory Daze” show, Hill opened up about his rivalry with Lyles. Despite expressing a “ton of respect” for Lyles, Hill did not hold back in declaring: “Unfortunately I hate Noah Lyles, bro… Obviously the fastest guy in America or whatever, but supposedly. Supposedly.”
Will there be a race in the future?
This showdown on the track came after a previously scheduled race between Tyreek Hill and Noah Lyles, an event that was expected to be of great magnitude in New York, was canceled due to personal reasons and logistical complications.
Although Hill had mentioned that they were still in “long conversations” about the date and location of a possible new race for the end of the NFL offseason, more recent reports indicate that the long-awaited duel is for the moment on hold, as Hill is focusing on his preparation for the upcoming NFL season.
