„Ještě jsme museli vyřešit nějaké detaily mezi námi, IIHF a Mezinárodním olympijským výborem (MOV). Už je vše v pořádku, jsme nadšení,“ uvedl zástupce komisionáře NHL Bill Daly.
Podle zákulisních informací by se dohoda neměla lišit od té poslední z roku 2014, kdy zámořská liga poslala své nejlepší hráče na olympijský turnaj do ruského Soči. Detaily, o kterých Daly mluvil, se týkají zejména bydlení hráčů ve vesnici, zajištění hotelů a vstupenek pro jejich příbuzné, členy Rady guvernérů NHL a celkově role soutěže v olympijském turnaji.
„Novou cestu jsme prorazili hlavně v komerčních právech spojených s olympijskými hrami. Budeme mít možnost využívat olympijský obsah lépe než v minulosti. To jsme neměli,“ pochvaloval si Daly.
Všechny strany tak mohou jásat. Nejlepší hokejisté světa oficiálně poměří své síly na olympijských hrách poprvé od roku 2014.
„Účast na olympiádě ukáže um a talent hráčů z NHL na mezinárodní scéně. Jsme hrdí na spolupráci s hráčskou asociací ligy, IIHF i MOV. Hokej z toho bude těžit celosvětově,“ je přesvědčen šéf zámořské ligy Gary Bettman. „Skvělý den pro hokej a jeho fanoušky,“ přitakal šéf IIHF Luc Tardiff.
Odměřenější je NHL k účasti hráčů na Zimních olympijských hrách 2030 ve Francii. Loni v únoru liga slibovala, že i tam budou její hokejisté k dispozici. Současná dohoda podle Dalyho s účastí ve Francii sice počítá, ale negarantuje ji. „Máme v úmyslu tam být. Ale ať už v dobrém, či zlém, tohle bude zcela jiné jednání,“ dodal zástupce šéfa NHL.
Hokejový olympijský turnaj odstartuje 11. února příštího roku a potrvá jedenáct dnů. Do 15. října musí všech dvanáct reprezentací předložit seznam 42 hráčů do pole a pět brankářů, ze kterých budou trenéři vybírat konečnou sestavu pro turnaj pod pěti kruhy.
