Wirbel um den amerikanischen College-Footballer Jake Retzlaff (22). Im vergangenen Monat reichte eine Frau eine Zivilklage wegen sexuellen Missbrauchs gegen den Quarterback ein. Laut „ESPN“ wurde die Anschuldigung mittlerweile wieder zurückgezogen.
Dennoch wurde Retzlaff jetzt von seinem College, der Brigham Young University, suspendiert. Grund: Sex vor der Ehe verstößt gegen den Ehrenkodex der Uni.
[–>Hintergrund: Die Brigham Young University (BYU) ist eine private Hochschule im US-Bundesstaat Utah und wird von der „Kirche Jesu Christi der Heiligen der Letzten Tage“ (Mormonen) getragen. Die Uni gilt als eine der konservativsten in den USA, besonders im Umgang mit Moral- und Verhaltensfragen.
Studierende verpflichten sich, einen strengen Ehrenkodex einzuhalten. Dazu gehören unter anderem ein Verbot von Sex vor oder außerhalb der Ehe, Alkohol-, Drogen- oder Pornografie-Konsum.
Doch genau diesen Kodex soll Retzlaff gebrochen haben. Laut der Anklage soll er im November 2023 eine Frau in seinem Schlafzimmer „vergewaltigt, gewürgt und gebissen“ haben. Ein Anwalt des Football-Spielers wies die Vorwürfe vehement zurück und erklärte, dass es zu einvernehmlichem Sex gekommen sei. Zuletzt haben sich beide Parteien darauf geeinigt, das Verfahren zu beenden.

Was bleibt, ist die Strafe für Retzlaff. Der US-Amerikaner wird wohl für sieben Spiele gesperrt. Allerdings wird er diese Sperre nicht absitzen, sondern zu einem anderen College wechseln. Das berichtet die „Deseret News“. Schon bald soll seine neue Uni bekanntgegeben werden.
Der Wechsel von Retzlaff ist für das Team der BYU Cougars ein herber Dämpfer im Kampf um den Einzug ins Big 12 Championship Game. Dabei handelt es sich um das Finalspiel der Big 12 Conference im US-College-Football.
Retzlaff startete 2024 in seiner ersten Saison als Stamm-Quarterback in 13 Spielen für die Cougars und führte das Team zu einer Bilanz von 11 Siegen und 2 Niederlagen. Dabei warf er für 2.947 Yards, 20 Touchdowns und 12 Interceptions.
