Nehodu totiž nepřežil ani Jotův o tři roky mladší bratr, jenž kopal druhou ligu za portugalský Penafiel. I proto tragédie ohromně zasáhla Porto. Oba sourozenci prošli mládežnickými celky klubu, řada zaměstnanců a bývalých hráčů je velmi dobře znala. Starší Jota si zahrál i za A-tým. „Truchlíme. Na svého dobrého kamaráda dojemně vzpomínal třeba i Rúben Neves, jenž momentálně se saúdskoarabským al-Hilálem kope na mistrovství světa klubů. Osmadvacetiletý záložník s Jotou hrál v Portu, Wolverhamptonu i portugalském národním týmu. „Říká se, že lidé opravdu odcházejí, jen když na ně zapomeneme. Na tebe nezapomenu nikdy,“ vzkázal na instagramu.

Tragická nehoda zasáhla úplně všechny, i borce, kteří Jotu coby parťáka na klubové či reprezentační úrovni vůbec neznali. „Život je až příliš krutý,“ napsal na síti X třeba španělský brankář Fiorentiny David de Gea, jenž Jotovým jedovatým střelám dlouhá léta čelil v barvách Manchesteru United.
U bran kultovního stadionu Anfield Road, domova Liverpoolu, už vzniklo pietní místo. Aby i fanoušci mohli přinést květiny, věnce a svými vzkazy vyjádřit rodině kondolence.
