Jake Paul‘s recent win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. was supposed to be another step in legitimizing his boxing career.
But instead of basking in the glory of his unanimous decision victory, Paul now finds himself entangled in an unexpected rivalry – this time with outspoken British journalist Piers Morgan.
Jake Paul goes wild and tries to catch an alligator after beating Julio Cesar Chavez Jr.
The feud began in the lead-up to Paul‘s bout against Chavez Jr., when an interview between the two ended abruptly after Paul insulted Morgan‘s appearance. “You’re still a fat**s,” Paul said before walking off, cutting the conversation short. Morgan, never one to shy away from confrontation, waited until after the fight to respond publicly.
“I had a better fight with Jake Paul on Thursday than the unwatchable farce that took place tonight,” Morgan wrote. “The guy’s lining his pockets with buckets of $$$$ – but he’s killing boxing with this boring staged bullsh*t against older fighters way past their prime.”
Paul and his team didn’t take the comment lightly. In response, Paul warned he would begin pursuing legal action against those questioning the integrity of his boxing career.
“After years of letting it slide as just ‘haters being haters,’ I have asked my team to vigorously go after anyone who makes up lies about my boxing career. Expect to get served you pigs,” he posted.
Morgan ups the ante with boxing challenge
Rather than backing down, Morgan escalated the drama. He posted a photo of himself training inside a boxing ring, accompanied by a direct message for Paul: “Back in the ring, and coming for you @jakepaul #BoxClever.”
The message came with visual flair – Morgan posed beneath a framed pair of trunks once worn by Rubin ‘Hurricane’ Carter, the legendary middleweight boxer. It was a pointed challenge to Paul, who has often faced criticism for choosing opponents past their athletic prime.
While Morgan, 60, is not expected to enter a ring competitively, his mock challenge captured public imagination – and highlighted just how polarizing Paul remains, even after a convincing win.
That victory itself was marred by criticism. Though Paul dominated most of the fight, some fans found it lackluster. The bout was briefly overshadowed by a brawl in the crowd, which drew more attention online than the fight itself. Security quickly intervened, but the moment added fuel to claims that Paul’s events prioritize spectacle over substance.
For now, Paul and his promotional team at MVP are reportedly moving forward with legal threats, but it’s unlikely the chatter around his career will fade anytime soon. Despite being ranked 14th in the WBA cruiserweight division, Paul’s legitimacy in boxing continues to be scrutinized – especially when critics like Morgan won’t back down.
As for a possible “celebrity” showdown? It’s improbable – but not entirely out of the realm of possibility in today’s media-fueled boxing landscape. And whether in court, the ring, or on social media, Jake Paul’s next fight may be just as much about defending his brand as it is about defending his record.
