Vertrags-Kracher um Nico Williams (22)! Der heftig umworbene spanische Europameister hat seinen Vertrag bei Athletic Bilbao völlig überraschend bis zum Jahr 2035 verlängert! Das teilte der baskische Traditions-Klub am Freitag mit.
„Nico Williams hat seinen Vertrag mit Athletic Club bis 2035 verlängert. Der Flügelspieler der Rojiblancos ist für die nächsten zehn Saisons an seinen geliebten Verein gebunden und seine Ausstiegsklausel wurde im Vergleich zum vorherigen Stand um mehr als 50 Prozent erhöht“, heißt es in der Mitteilung des spanischen Erstligisten.
In einem von Athletic in den sozialen Netzwerken veröffentlichten Video sagte Williams: „Wenn Entscheidungen getroffen werden müssen, zählt für mich das Herz am meisten. Ich bin dort, wo ich sein möchte, bei meiner Familie. Das ist mein Zuhause.“ Eine Liebeserklärung an Bilbao!
[–>Williams, dessen Marktwert bei 70 Millionen Euro liegt (Quelle: transfermarkt.de), galt als Wunschspieler von Bayern-Sportvorstand Max Eberl (51) für die linke offensive Außenbahn des deutschen Rekordmeisters.
Ein Williams-Wechsel zu den Bayern ist damit mehr als unwahrscheinlich – genau wie ein Transfer zum FC Barcelona und Ex-Bundestrainer Hansi Flick (60). Dabei war sich Williams grundsätzlich schon mit Barça einig.
Allerdings ging der Wechsel wegen den finanziellen Problemen des FC Barcelona und der unklaren Situation, ob Williams für die kommende LaLiga-Saison überhaupt registriert werden kann, noch nicht über die Bühne.
Ein Transfer von Williams wäre zwar auch nach seiner Vertragsverlängerung noch nicht komplett vom Tisch, sein Treueschwur auf Bilbao macht ihn allerdings mehr als unwahrscheinlich. Zudem müssten interessierte Klubs durch die um 50 Prozent erhöhte Ausstiegsklausel nun deutlich mehr für den Spanier bezahlen. Williams‘ ursprüngliche Klausel lag Medienberichten zufolge bei rund 62 Millionen Euro.
