Der 27-Jährige befindet sich in einem offenen Machtkampf mit seinem Klub und will unbedingt den Wechsel zu Arsenal durchdrücken. Laut portugiesischer Zeitung „Record“ hat Gyökeres sogar bereits mit Sporting-Präsident Frederico Varandas telefoniert – mit einer klaren Botschaft: „Ich will nicht und werde nicht zurückkehren.“
Gyökeres träumt von der Champions League und hat deshalb auch Manchester United eine Absage erteilt, obwohl Trainer Ruben Amorim ihn gerne mit nach Old Trafford geholt hätte. Auch Juventus blitzte ab – trotz Königsklassen-Fußball, so der Bericht. Die Italiener verpflichteten daraufhin Jonathan David.
Und auch zwei Mega-Angebote aus Saudi-Arabien von Al-Hilal und Al-Qadisiyah lehnte der Schwede ab.
