UFC White House fight: Conor McGregor and Jon Jones react after President Trump declaration

When Donald Trump declared that a UFC fight would take place on the grounds of the White House as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebrations, fans of the sport were left stunned, and electrified as they were told Dana White is on board.

The current president told a crowd in Iowa, “We’re going to have a UFC fight on the grounds of the White House. We have a lot of land there. Dana’s going to do it.”

Conor McGregor, after visiting Trump at the White House: “Your work ethic is an inspiration”

That one sentence instantly lit a fuse under what could become one of the most unprecedented spectacles in combat sports history.

Now, two of the UFC’s biggest stars have entered the conversation: Conor McGregor and Jon Jones, both of whom seem eager to be part of the historic moment.

McGregor, the former two-weight world champion and arguably the most iconic fighter in MMA history, posted a screenshot of a private exchange with UFC president Dana White.

In the messages, McGregor had suggested fighting at the White House, to which White enthusiastically replied, “I LOVE IT.”

McGregor doubled down with a public post, writing, “Happy 4th of July, USA. Excited with President Trump announcing a UFC fight event at the White House. I would be honoured! Count me in!”

The post, released to his millions of followers on X, sparked a frenzy among fight fans who have long awaited his return to the Octagon.

Jon Jones re-enters USADA pool amid speculation

Not to be outdone, Jon “Bones” Jones, widely considered one of the greatest fighters in UFC history, hinted at making his own comeback.

The former light heavyweight and current heavyweight champion wrote on X, “Just re-entered the testing pool, which lasted for about two weeks. Figured we’d keep everyone’s options open.”

The message, casual in tone but heavy in implication, was taken as a clear signal that Jones might be eyeing a return to competition on a stage no one could have imagined.

While the UFC has not officially announced a card, an organization spokesperson confirmed to NBC News that plans were indeed underway, though specifics remain limited.

“It’s not clear how far along planning for the event is or how definite it is that it will happen,” the spokesperson said. “More details would be released in due time.”

Wild callouts and unexpected matchups

Amid the serious speculation and excitement about big-name returns, Philip Rowe, a UFC welterweight, made headlines for a less conventional challenge.

Rowe took to social media to call out women’s bantamweight champion Kayla Harrison, writing, “Give me @KaylaH at the White House! #StrapSeason #UfcWhiteHouse.”

Harrison, a former Olympian and dominant force in the women’s division, replied with confidence: “You ain’t ready for this, sweetie.”

The lighthearted back-and-forth recalled previous intergender callouts like Henry Cejudo’s infamous challenge to Valentina Shevchenko, which never materialized but created huge buzz at the time.

Of course, a real intergender matchup is not going to happen under any UFC-sanctioned banner. But the callout reflects the wild energy surrounding the proposed White House event-an atmosphere where almost anything seems possible.

A potential fight card for the ages

There is already speculation that if the event moves forward, it could feature Conor McGregor finally returning to fight Michael Chandler, a bout that has been teased for months.

On the heavyweight side, Jon Jones squaring off against Tom Aspinall has the potential to be one of the biggest fights in recent memory.

If White can line up those matchups, the White House could become the setting for the most-watched UFC event in history.

More than just a novelty, this would be a showcase of the sport’s evolution-from the underground to the front lawn of the most powerful residence in the world. And with Trump, McGregor, Jones, and White all in the mix, it might be the kind of over-the-top drama that only the UFC can deliver.
