Following the Philadelphia Eagles’ December win over the Carolina Panthers when all seemed well and the road to the Super Bowl looked clear-clouds of controversy suddenly gathered over the team. It all stemmed from a postgame interview where wide receiver AJ Brown was asked what the offense needed to improve. His one-word answer: “passes.”
It may have seemed like an innocent, straightforward response to some. But for Eagles fans, who live and breathe football, it struck a nerve. From that moment on, every interaction between quarterback Jalen Hurts and AJ Brown became fertile ground for speculation and drama.

Despite Brown repeatedly clarifying that he had no intention of criticizing his quarterback, the narrative had already taken hold.
Now, tight end Dallas Goedert has stepped in to set the record straight. In an interview with Essentially Sports, Goedert addressed the so-called rift between Hurts and Brown:
I think they’ve got a great relationship. They’re both passionate. They’re both very meticulous at what they do. You know, I think they got a great relationship.
Sometimes the Philadelphia media likes to stir stuff up. You know, as a wide receiver, I want him to be a little bit of a diva. I want him to want the ball. I want him to believe that he’s the best and can never be guarded. So, when everything’s going good, nobody has a problem with anything. When something starts to struggle, you know, he wants the ball. He wants to be able to be a difference maker, and I think both of them handled it really well, getting their points across, and I think Jalen does everything right to make sure everybody on the team stays happy,
Some even suggested that the lack of passing had more to do with the increased role of running back Saquon Barkley, who had been entrusted with a significant number of carries to gain ground on the run.
This supposed tension between Hurts and Brown seems more and more like a media creation-a storyline born out of nothing. Barkley himself addressed the issue:
To be honest, you guys in the media are the ones kind of creating that narrative. Our focus is winning football games,” he said, adding that he had “100% confidence” in the team.
All signs point to there being no real issue between Hurts and Brown. The duo appears to be in sync, aligned in their goals, and focused on contributing to the team’s success-both collectively and individually.
The road to a repeat starts against their most hated rival
The Eagles‘ journey toward a potential repeat championship begins on September 4, when they host bitter rivals the Dallas Cowboys. Philadelphia will be hoping to kick off the 2025 season on the right foot.
