Wie die spanische Zeitung „Sport“ berichtet, plant Flick nach dem überraschenden Nein von Williams, verstärkt Talente aus der eigenen Jugend hochzuziehen. Zwei Namen stehen dabei besonders im Fokus: Jan Virgili (18) und Dani Rodriguez (19).

Ursprünglich war Williams bereits so gut wie bei Barça. Laut Medienberichten waren sich beide Seiten einig, der Klub wollte die Ausstiegsklausel des Flügelstars von Athletic Bilbao ziehen. Doch der Deal scheiterte – angeblich, weil Williams auf eine Sonderklausel bestand: Sollte Barça ihn nicht registrieren können, hätte er ablösefrei gehen dürfen. Die Katalanen lehnten ab – Williams verlängerte stattdessen sensationell bis 2035 in Bilbao.
Die Folge: Flick greift zur La-Masia-Lösung. Vor allem Virgili, ein trickreicher Außenstürmer, könnte profitieren. Er hat zwar noch kein Spiel im Profiteam gemacht, aber bei der U19-EM für Aufsehen gesorgt: Im Halbfinale gegen Deutschland kam er von der Bank, traf zum Ausgleich und bereitete das 6:5-Siegtor vor.
[–>Auch Dani Rodriguez soll in der Vorbereitung wieder voll angreifen. Der Youngster feierte im Mai sein Debüt in La Liga – wurde jedoch in der ersten Halbzeit mit einer Schulterverletzung vom Platz geholt. Wegen der Blessur verpasste er auch die U19-EM. Im August soll er zurückkehren.
Flick hatte bereits in der letzten Saison betont: „Ich mag, was ich von den La-Masia-Spielern sehe. Wenn wir sie brauchen, holen wir sie hoch.“
