We haven’t seen Dak Prescott this fired up in years.
On the verge of returning to action following the injury that sidelined him last season, the Dallas Cowboys quarterback says he’s thrilled-not just to play again, but to connect with his new wide receiver, George Pickens.
Prescott missed most of the 2024 NFL season due to a torn hamstring. In his absence, the Cowboys handed the reins to Cooper Rush, but the offense took a noticeable dip-dropping to 21 points per game after leading the league in scoring two years in a row.
Determined to give Prescott another reliable weapon opposite CeeDee Lamb, Dallas made a bold move: acquiring Pickens from the Pittsburgh Steelers. And Dak couldn’t be happier.
“Go turn on that guy’s tape”
In an interview with the Cowboys’ official website, Prescott had nothing but praise for his new target.
“Go turn on that guy’s tape,” he said with visible enthusiasm, pointing out Pickens’ talent for shaking off safeties. “He’s getting separation-even when he’s not getting the ball. And when he doesn’t have separation, he’s still making the catches.”
Prescott added that Pickens’ presence will make his job a lot easier: “It’s not going to be hard. For me, it’s about getting the ball near that guy-and he’ll be George Pickens. Go turn on the tape, he’s great at doing it.”
“Exciting as hell” duo with Lamb and Pickens
Prescott beamed at the thought of throwing to both Pickens and Lamb, calling the opportunity “exciting as hell.” As for Pickens’ reputation off the field, Prescott believes firsthand experience has debunked the noise. Seeing him get involved with the team disproved “a lot of the things you heard in the past.”
With training camp around the corner and the preseason just weeks away, fans will soon find out if Prescott’s excitement is warranted. The Cowboys took a leap of faith when they brought in Pickens-but based on Dak’s reaction, that gamble may already be paying off.
