Seit Jahren gab es beim Budget von Alba Berlin immer nur eine Richtung: bergauf.
Doch die Jahre des Wachstums sind vorbei. SPORT BILD erfuhr: Erstmals schrumpft der Etat bei den Berlinern.

In der abgelaufenen Basketball-Saison kalkulierten die Berliner mit 14,6 Millionen Euro, waren damit die klare Nummer zwei hinter Meister Bayern (ca. 30 Mio. Euro). Aber auch deutlich vor Vizemeister Ratiopharm Ulm (9,1 Mio. Euro), gegen die die Berliner im Viertelfinale glatt (0:3) verloren hatten.

Grund für die Sparmaßnahmen: Rückgang der Einnahmen. Zu den 17 Heimspielen in der Euroleague kamen im Schnitt 9180 Zuschauer in die Uber Arena am Ostbahnhof. Doch aus der europäischen Königsklasse hat sich Alba bekanntlich zurückgezogen, tritt in der kommenden Saison in der zweitklassigen Champions League an.
Baldi erklärt: „Wir haben uns schon im Jahr zuvor nur zähneknirschend für die Euroleague entschieden. Denn die Bedingungen sind so schwierig und im Prinzip ohne Perspektive, dass wir gesagt haben: Das können wir nicht nochmal machen. Die Perspektive sehen wir jetzt eher bei der Champions League. Das bedeutet aber auch ein geringeres Volumen und damit ein Budget, das sinken wird.“

Der Modus dort ist ein anderer. Dadurch sind es deutlich weniger Spiele, wahrscheinlich nur rund die Hälfte. Und die Gegner haben keine klangvollen Namen mehr wie Real Madrid, Panathinaikos Athen oder Bayern München.
In der Gruppenphase, die am Mittwoch in Lausanne ausgelost wurde, heißen Albas Gegner jetzt ERA Nymburk (Tschechien) oder BC Sabah (Aserbaidschan).
[–>Weniger Spiele, weniger Zuschauer, weniger Vermarktung. Das Problem: die Uber Arena. „Wir werden weiter dort spielen. Wir haben dort Vertrag, auch wenn es teuer ist“, bestätigt Ojeda. „Wo sollen wir auch sonst spielen? Die Schmeling-Halle ist keine Option, weil dort mit den Füchsen und den BR Volleys bereits zwei Hometeams sind. Da ist kein Platz für ein drittes Team.“

Gespart wird deshalb vor allem beim Spieler-Etat: In der abgelaufenen Saison planten die Berliner mit 8,1 Millionen Euro für die Personalkosten Sport. Baldi mit Blick auf die kommende Saison: „Es ist eine deutliche Reduzierung. Wir müssen ja am Jahresende eine ausgeglichene Bilanz vorweisen. Wir haben keine Möglichkeit über Fremd-Injektionen uns dauerhaft über Wasser zuhalten. Damit sind wir in der Euroleague nicht konkurrenzfähig. Die Euroleague-Klubs verlieren im Jahr an die 200 Millionen Euro. Und das stört die nicht. Aber wir können so nicht agieren.“

Um wie viel Prozent das Budget genau sinkt, kann Baldi noch nicht absehen: „Es könnte nur ein einstelliger Prozentsatz sein, wenn wir ganz weit in der Champions League kommen. Es kann aber auch sein, dass schon nach drei Spieltagen Schluss ist. Und das hat massive Auswirkungen auf das Volumen.“
15 Profis leisteten sich die Berliner in der letzten Saison für die Spiele in der Euroleague, Bundesliga und Pokal. Ojeda: „Jetzt reduzieren wir den Kader von 15 auf 12 Spieler.“

Die auslaufenden Verträge der teuren Stars wie Matt Thomas, Gabriele Procida, Michael Kessens oder David McCormack wurden nicht verlängert. Dazu verabschiedeten sich mit Yanni Wetzell, Elias Rapieque und Tim Schneider langjährige Alba-Profis zu anderen Klubs.
„Es ist der größte Umbau seit ich hier bin“, bestätigt Ojeda, der im Februar 2016 zu Alba kam.
Die Ziele, zumindest in der Bundesliga, bleiben weiterhin hochgesteckt: Ojeda: „Wir wollen bis zum letzten Tag dabei sein.“ Mal sehen, ob das mit dem Kader gelingt …
