Den 17. Mai 2000 werden Galatasaray-Fans nie vergessen: Damals stand der Verein im Finale des Uefa-Cups gegen Arsenal. Die Gunners spielten unter Trainer Arsène Wenger (75) mit Stars wie Thierry Henry (47), Dennis Bergkamp (56) und Patrick Vieira (49). Und dennoch rettete sich Istanbul trotz Unterzahl ins Elfmeterschießen, gewann in Kopenhagen am Ende sensationell 4:1. Bis heute der größte internationale Triumph der Klubgeschichte.
25 Jahre später ist der Transfer von Leroy Sané (29/ablösefrei von Bayern, Vertrag bis 2028) ein Signal, dass Galatasaray in Zukunft wieder mit den ganz Großen in Europa mithalten möchte. Sané kassiert neun Mio. Euro netto, kann inklusive Boni bis zu 15 Mio. netto verdienen.
Gala ist auch an Torwart Marc-André ter Stegen (33/Barcelona), Ilkay Gündogan (34/Manchester City) und Hakan Calhanoglu (31/Inter Mailand) interessiert. Dazu soll der zuletzt von Neapel ausgeliehene Top-Stürmer Victor Osimhen (26/37 Tore in 41 Spielen) fest verpflichtet werden. Kosten: 75 Mio. Euro. Im November 2024 vermeldete der Verein noch Schulden in Höhe von 395,59 Mio. Euro.
Die Frage: Woher hat Galatasaray das ganze Geld?
[–>Die Antwort: Die neue Hauptgeldquelle ist das alte Trainingsgelände im Villenviertel Florya, das im Westen von Istanbul liegt. Nach Vereinsangaben hat der Klub dort Grundstücke in einer Größe von rund 80 Hektar (112 Fußballfelder). Zurzeit führt Gala eine Ausschreibung durch, um diese zu verkaufen, damit darauf neue Häuser gebaut werden können. Die Bosse rechnen mit Einnahmen in Höhe von 500 bis 600 Millionen Euro. Obwohl der Bieterprozess noch läuft, werden die erwarteten Millionen bereits jetzt in neue Stars investiert.
Schon im Februar zog der Klub um, trainiert jetzt in Kemerburgaz im Norden der Stadt. 2026 sollen auch die Jugend- und Frauenmannschaften dorthin ziehen. Das neue Gelände hat der Klub für 49 Jahre vom türkischen Staat gepachtet, will dieses kaufen, sobald die frischen Millionen da sind.
Hinzu kommen gestiegene Sponsoring-Einnahmen: Vor zwei Wochen vermeldete Galatasaray einen neuen Deal mit Trikotsponsor Pasifik Holding. Anstatt 3,4 Millionen Euro zahlt das türkische Bauunternehmen in Zukunft rund 8,6 Mio. pro Jahr. Insgesamt liegen die Sponsoring-Einnahmen in der kommenden Saison bei 80 Mio. Euro – Klub-Rekord.
Die Erklärung: Durch die Transfers von Mauro Icardi (32/kam 2023 von Paris Saint-Germain), Álvaro Morata (32/kam Anfang 2025 auf Leihbasis von der AC Mailand) und Osimhen hat der Klub in den letzten drei Jahren viel mehr Aufmerksamkeit generiert und somit auch mehr Sponsoren gewonnen als früher, die wiederum deutlich mehr investieren.

Auch der sportliche Erfolg hilft bei der neuen Offensive. Galatasaray konnte die letzten drei Liga-Titel gewinnen. Pro Meisterschaft kassiert der Verein rund zehn Mio. Euro. Dazu kommt die Champions-League-Kohle für die neue Saison. Allein an Antrittsgeld verdient der Verein 18,62 Mio. Euro.
Das große Ziel: Galatasaray will in Zukunft wieder einen internationalen Titel holen. In der kommenden Saison soll die Ligaphase der Königsklasse überstanden, im Idealfall das Viertelfinale erreicht werden.
Auslöser für die neuen Ambitionen waren die Champions-League-Spiele 2023/24, als es gegen die Bayern nur zwei knappe Niederlagen (1:3, 1:2) gab. Auch der 3:2-Sieg gegen Manchester United im Old Trafford hat dem Verein Selbstvertrauen gegeben.
Der Stratege hinter dem Gala-Plan ist Vize-Präsident Abdullah Kavukcu (52). Ihm gehört eine der größten und erfolgreichsten Restaurantketten der Türkei: „Simit Sarayı“ (Bäckereien und Cafés). Er ist erst seit einem Jahr dabei. Mit seiner Überzeugungskraft war der Milliardär maßgeblich dafür verantwortlich, dass Morata, Osimhen und Sané zu Galatasaray gewechselt sind. Jetzt will er den Verein auf europäischer Bühne wieder groß machen – und backt wieder größere Brötchen.
