The saga of the Cleveland Browns’ quarterbacks keeps growing. The latest chapter involves Kenny Pickett, who was the first quarterback signed by the Browns at the start of free agency. After him, Joe Flacco arrived before the Draft, followed by the selection of rookies Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders.
Shedeur Sanders does not take a day off as he gets ready to compete for the starting job
At the moment, according to insiders, the expected starter-despite Kevin Stefanski stating it would be an “open competition”-is Joe Flacco, due to his successful stint with the Browns in 2023. However, a few weeks ago, Browns receiver Diontae Johnson revealed that Cleveland’s head coach has shown a preference for Kenny Pickett, so the controversy hasn’t subsided.
It’s worth remembering that Kenny Pickett was a first-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2022. In two years, he started 24 games. After those two seasons, he was sent to the Philadelphia Eagles, where he became a Super Bowl champion as Jalen Hurts’ backup.

Terry Bradshaw criticized the Steelers for giving up on Kenny Pickett
The Steelers selected Kenny Pickett in the first round of the 2022 Draft-a class that lacked strong quarterback talent. The pick sparked mixed reactions, so patience was limited-and that’s exactly how things played out.
That’s why four-time Super Bowl champion and Steelers legend Terry Bradshaw criticized Pittsburgh for how they handled Pickett’s situation.
“He was a first-round pick, and they got rid of him after two years. And they’re still looking for a quarterback. They didn’t even do anything to build around him,” Bradshaw said on the To The Point – Home Services podcast.
It wasn’t the first time Bradshaw had called out the Steelers for mishandling Pickett. A few weeks earlier, he had said the following on 103.7 The Buzz:
“I know him, I know what he’s like. When they brought him to Pittsburgh, they didn’t protect him, didn’t give him an offensive line. They wanted to run the ball, but didn’t have a line that could protect, and they had no weapons. He had no wide receivers to speak of… Now they’re saying Kenny Pickett was a failure. He wasn’t a failure; the Steelers were a failure.”
Now, Kenny Pickett is looking for an opportunity with the Cleveland Browns.
