Vladimir Guerrero Jr. had two hits and two RBIs, Davis Schneider homered and Chris Bassitt pitched six sharp innings as the Toronto Blue Jays pushed their winning streak to 10 games with a rain-shortened 6-1 victory over the host Chicago White Sox on Tuesday.

The game was called following a one-hour, 24-minute rain delay with the Blue Jays batting in the top of the seventh.

Toronto, sitting in first place in the American League East, continued its longest tear since the 2015 team won 12 in a row. The Blue Jays out-hit the White Sox 12-4 while sending Chicago to its sixth loss in eight games.

A five-run third inning against White Sox starter Aaron Civale proved the difference for Toronto. Schneider started the rally with a leadoff home run before Guerrero Jr. drove in his first run with an RBI double.

Addison Barger (double) and Alejandro Kirk (single) added run-scoring hits in the inning before Joey Loperfido’s RBI groundout.

George Springer, Kirk and Loperfido had two hits apiece for Toronto. That was ample support for Bassitt (9-4), who surrendered a solo shot to Josh Rojas in the sixth but was otherwise unblemished. The veteran right-hander scattered four hits with one walk and one strikeout.

He threw just 78 pitches before the delay.

Civale fell to 1-6 after losing for the fourth time in five starts since joining the White Sox in mid-June. He yielded five runs on seven hits in four innings, with two walks and zero strikeouts.

Chicago threatened in the bottom of the first inning, as Mike Tauchman delivered a leadoff double before Lenyn Sosa was hit by a pitch. Bassitt emerged unscathed, however, getting a flyout before inducing Miguel Vargas to hit a double-play groundout to short.

Reinstated from the 10-day injured list before the game, White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr. (strained left hamstring) went 1-for-2.

Brooks Baldwin initially was set to start in left field for Chicago but was scratched before the game with lower back tightness and replaced by Austin Slater.

Guerrero Jr. added an RBI single in the sixth.

4 Takeaways From The U.S. Men’s Team’s 2-1 Win Over Australia

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — A bittersweet result for the U.S. men's team as the march toward next summer's World Cup continues. The good news? Haji Wright scored twice to secure the first come-from-behind win under coach Mauricio Pochettino. The bad? USMNT star Christian Pulisic was forced to leave the friendly in the first half because of what appeared to be an injury to his right ankle. Here are my takeaways:1. Pulisic's injury overshadows winThe country’s best attacking player came into this two-match window nursing an ankle problem that Pochettino said has been bothering him since AC Milan’s preseason. It swelled up following last Wednesday’s training session in Austin, Texas — ruling Pulisic out of Thursday’s practice and limiting him to less than 20 minutes off the bench a day later. But there Pulisic was back in the starting lineup at Dick’s Sporting Good […]

Haji Wright delivers as USMNT beats Australia 2-1, but Christian Pulisic injury clouds win

COMMERCE CITY, Colo. — If the U.S. men’s national team is going to make a significant run at the 2026 World Cup, it’s going to need top attacker Christian Pulisic on the field and in good form. This much is clear. With his club career on the rise in Italy, he is poised to shine when the quadrennial spectacle comes to North America next summer. However, the international window that ended Tuesday — the third-to-last assembly before Mauricio Pochettino selects his World Cup roster — provided opportunity for the U.S. squad to play effective soccer largely without the hobbled Pulisic over two matches.AdvertisementAdvertisementAdvertisementAfter Pulisic left in the first half with an apparent ankle injury, Haji Wright scored twice in 18 minutes bridging halftime as the Americans came from behind to defeat previously surging Australia, 2-1, before 18,218 witnesses at Dick’s Sporting […]

USMNT vs Australia live updates: Pulisic off injured, Wright equalises for US in friendly, score, analysis

Christian Pulisic had remained on the U.S. bench for a few minutes, watching the game in a winter coat. At one point, he hunched over, clearly upset. Matt Turner, sitting next to him, put his left arm around Pulisic and patted him on the back. Moments later, Pulisic got up and headed to the locker room accompanied by two staffers. He was still in the open-air portion of the stadium when Wright scored, but then he continued on to the locker room. Hard to escape the feeling that he’s the biggest story tonight, no matter what happens over the next 65 minutes.

Portland Fire coaching hire: WNBA expansion team to hire Alex Sarama from Cleveland Cavaliers, per report

The Portland Fire are expected to hire Alex Sarama as the first coach in franchise history, according to Annie Costabile of Front Office Sports. Prior to joining the Cavs, Sarama was an assistant coach and director of player development for the Rip City Remix, the Portland Trail Blazers' G League affiliate. Mike Shildt’s exit, the GM’s future and the offense: Takeaways from A.J. Preller’s presser

A.J. Preller’s season-wrapping videoconference was unusual for at least two reasons. It lasted almost 45 minutes, perhaps longer than any news conference the San Diego Padres president of baseball operations had held in more than a decade. And it took place Tuesday, almost two weeks after the team saw its playoff hopes dashed in another low-scoring game at Wrigley Field.AdvertisementThere was, it turned out, a major development behind the delay.Soon after the Padres’ elimination in the National League Wild Card Series, manager Mike Shildt informed Preller that he wished to spend a week at home in North Carolina. Rather than dive right into exit interviews and preparation for the 2026 season, the baseball lifer was requesting time away from the only career he’d ever known.By then, some players and staffers already were wondering if Shildt, 57, might not return as San […]
