Deion Sanders plays it coy with Kaidon Salter and Juju Lewis

Deion Sanders stepped onto the stage at Big 12 Media Days with his usual energy-but when it came to the quarterback question, he didn’t offer clarity. Instead, he leaned into the unknown.

“We brought both of them because I don’t know which one is going to start,”Sanders said, referring to veteran transfer Kaidon Salter and true freshman Julian “JuJu” Lewis.

Both quarterbacks bring very different strengths. Salter, the Liberty standout, has put up serious numbers over the last two seasons-4,762 passing yards, 47 touchdowns, 1,676 rushing yards, and 19 scores on the ground. Lewis, meanwhile, was a top-100 national recruit and the No. 7 quarterback in the 2025 class, per 247Sports.

The QB Room Just Got Real Interesting

Asked if he might rotate both quarterbacks this fall, Sanders didn’t hesitate. “Yeah. Long as they’re doing their jobs and we’re winning,” he said. “We definitely want to continue to develop JuJu, but Kaidon is unbelievable.”

It’s not just lip service. Sanders raved about both players, calling Salter“off the chain” and describing Lewis as someone “coming around the mountain.” He clearly sees potential in both-and might just be planning to use them both.

The decision takes on even more weight given the void left by Shedeur Sanders, who threw for over 4,100 yards and 37 touchdowns last season before heading to the NFL. Whoever wins the job isn’t just replacing a quarterback-they’re replacing a cornerstone.

At this point, it’s less about keeping secrets and more about fueling competition. And maybe keeping opponents guessing too. After all, a two-QB threat adds layers to any game plan.

As The Athletic noted in a recent preview, “Colorado’s quarterback room is one of the most fascinating in the country.” That’s by design-and Deion Sanders seems perfectly happy to let the story unfold in real time.

AL East odds: Blue Jays have surged into first place, now can they stay ahead of the Yankees down the stretch?

For quite a while, the American League East looked like it would be a laugher this season. The Yankees had a five-game lead by the middle of May and it grew to as high as seven. It was 6 ½ as late as June 3. The Blue Jays actually trailed by eight games and were down by four on June 22. Then, between June 30 July 5, they turned a three-game deficit into a three-game lead. Entering Thursday, the Jays have a 2 ½-game lead over the Yankees with the Rays four games back and the Red Sox still within striking range at 5 ½ back. The Orioles, who were a sneaky pick to win the division back in spring training, sit 12 ½ games out as one of the most disappointing teams in baseball. How do we think this division shakes […]
