Deion Sanders sends prayers to Shedeur amid growing rumors the Browns may cut him

Things haven’t been easy for Shedeur Sanders since the last NFL Draft in April. Once projected to go in the top 10 picks, his stock fell dramatically until he was selected at No. 144 overall in the fifth round by the Cleveland Browns.

The selection immediately raised eyebrows, as the Browns already had three quarterbacks on the roster: veteran Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, coming off a stint with the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles, and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel, who had been drafted well before Shedeur. Another one?

Shedeur Sanders had no idea what was coming during awkward live moment

A roster loaded with talent

In addition to Deshaun Watson, who is expected to miss the entire 2026 season but will still collect the $230 million guaranteed contract he signed after leaving Houston, the remaining quarterbacks face intense competition. There is no room for error.

That pressure, combined with the weight of being the son of a legend like Deion Sanders and all Shedeur accomplished at Colorado, makes this a critical moment. It’s not just about winning the starting job-his immediate goal is simply to secure a spot on the final 53-man roster. And with so much at stake, Shedeur is likely having some sleepless nights.

Current reports suggest that either Joe Flacco or Kenny Pickett will be named the starter. That would leave one remaining slot for a backup-either for Dillon Gabriel or Shedeur Sanders.

The prayers Deion Sanders sent to Shedeur

Despite persistent criticism about how strongly he supports his sons, “Coach Prime” remains unwavering in his dedication. He recently shared an encouraging message for Shedeur during this uncertain period in Cleveland:

I pray u make it through this Test & turn it into a Testimony! Your job, your relationship, your finances & your entire situation, I pray for it to become what u want it to be or that u find better, do better & live better. You deserve what u want & need. Believe!

Deion knows his son’s potential-he coached him at the University of Colorado, and his belief in Shedeur goes beyond paternal love. He genuinely sees in him the tools to succeed in the NFL.

Standing 6’1″ and weighing around 212 pounds, Shedeur threw for 7,364 yards and 64 touchdowns against just 13 interceptions during his college career-impressive numbers for any quarterback. If his name weren’t so widely known, he’d likely be considered a high-potential prospect on any NFL roster.

Possibilities outside of Cleveland

There has been speculation that if Shedeur doesn’t make the Browns’ roster, he could head to the CFL. However, that scenario seems unlikely. It’s more plausible that another NFL team could take a chance on him if a roster spot opens up elsewhere.

For now, Shedeur’s focus must remain on the task at hand-earning his place in Cleveland. Once the dust settles, it’ll be time to evaluate his next move.
