Lionel Messi made more history Wednesday night, becoming the first MLS player to score multiple times in four consecutive regular-season games.

The Argentine striker, widely considered one of the best players in the sport’s history, has knocked in 14 goals for Inter Miami FC this season following a pair of tallies against the New England Revolution in a 2-1 win. His latest history-making streak of goals came against CF Montréal, the Columbus Crew and CF Montréal again before Wednesday’s double, which was sealed with a classic left-footed strike after a beautiful set-up by Sergio Busquets.

In addition to the goals during this stretch – which straddles Miami’s time in the FIFA Club World Cup, where Messi scored once – he has chipped in four assists as well. On the season, he has 21 goal contributions (14 goals, seven assists) and is chasing his MVP-level numbers of a season ago, when he scored 20 goals and added 16 assists in just 19 games.

Miami is 10-3-5 after Wednesday’s win and in fifth place in the Eastern Conference standings, though it has multiple games in hand on the teams it is chasing owing to its time at the Club World Cup.
