If the Dallas Cowboys want to succeed next season, the burden doesn’t fall solely on the offense and what Dak Prescott can achieve, but also on a defense that has left a strong impression in recent years. It’s no secret that Micah Parsons, who dazzled in his rookie year, and Trevon Diggs, who recorded an impressive 11 interceptions in the now-distant 2021, are names to watch.

Later, Da’Ron Bland stole the spotlight in 2023 with an NFL record for interceptions returned for touchdowns in a single season, while last year it was Demarvion Overshown‘s turn, bringing dynamism to the linebacker position, something the Cowboys hadn’t seen in a long time.
Now, the spotlight could shift to a rookie, thanks to the attention opponents will pay to other defensive stars.
A new player’s turn to shine
The Dallas Cowboys added several intriguing defensive pieces through the NFL Draft, but one stands out above the rest.
That player is second-round pick Donovan Ezeiruaku, who was projected as a first-round talent before slipping to the 44th overall pick, where the Cowboys selected him.

The player’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed, and head coach Brian Schottenheimer has already taken note. “He’s doing really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really great. You can’t watch the guy and not get excited just watching him do the things that we’re doing out there on the grass, the things that we saw coming out of Boston College. And then the work ethic is elite.”
Ezeiruaku himself is confident in his ability to earn a spot in the defense and make an immediate impact. “I have a deep arsenal of moves,” he said, via @TheDraftNetwork. “I obviously love that speed rush to the outside. Whether that’s a cross chop or the side swipe, I love using my hands to deflect the offensive tackles‘ hands.”
While it’s true that the team doesn’t lack talent in the pass rush, and they don’t need him to master everything right away, the rookie knows that the attention drawn by Parsons will create opportunities for him.
