Am Morgen nach der extrem knappen Niederlage gegen Kroatien muss Deutschlands Beachhandball-Nationalmannschaft im letzten Hauptrundenspiel gegen Favorit Dänemark ran. Die Truppe von Bundestrainer Marten Franke macht ein Superspiel, gewinnt mit 2:0 (26:18, 21:20).

Durch den Sieg sichert sich Deutschland den Sieg in der Hauptrundengruppe A, trifft als Gruppensieger im Viertelfinale am Nachmittag auf Italien, den Vierten der Gruppe B (17 Uhr/live bei Dyn/Anzeige).
Ganz stark: Auch die Frauen holen sich den Sieg in ihrer Hauptrundengruppe! Im abschließenden Gruppenspiel gibt’s einen 2:0-Sieg (20:8, 17:16) gegen Norwegen. Im Viertelfinale am Freitagabend (19 Uhr/live bei Dyn) wartet jetzt der Vierte der Gruppe B –Griechenland.
Beste Scorerin ist wieder mal Belen Gettwart, die 14 Punkte besorgt. Überragend diesmal aber vor allem die Defensive, in der Lucie-Marie Kretzschmar ihr bestes Spiel bei der EM zeigt, immer wieder Bälle klaut und Gegenangriffe einleitet.

Während die Frauen gegen Norwegen durchaus favorisiert waren, ist der Sieg der Männer gegen Dänemark eine kleine Überraschung.
Dänemark war bis zu diesem Spiel makellos, hatte alle Spiele gewonnen und nur gegen Portugal mal einen Satz abgegeben. Der Europameister von 2019 und 2021 zählt auch in der Türkei wieder zu den Top-Favoriten.
Die frühe Anwurfzeit (8.30 Uhr Ortszeit) scheint den Dänen zu liegen, schnell führen sie 4:0. Doch die Deutschen sind dann auch hellwach – kein Wunder, schließlich waren sie alle gemeinsam vor dem Spiel bereits zu ganz früher Stunde im Fitnessraum.

Das hilft offenbar vor allem einem: Torwart Moritz Ebert. Der 24-Jährige von den Sand Devils Minden läuft im ersten Satz zu großer Form auf, gibt mit einem gehaltenen Strafwurf die Initialzündung für seine Truppe, hält später auch den zweiten Strafwurf gegen Deutschland.
Nach dem Treffer zum 18:22 gelingt Dänemark in den letzten 1:33 Minuten des Satzes kein einziger Punkt mehr – total ungewöhnlich im Beachhandball. Ergebnis der guten Abwehrarbeit von Torwart Ebert im Verbund mit der starken Defensive um den hart ackernden Tobias Zeyen (25).
Mindestens genauso gut läuft es vorne. 93 Prozent der deutschen Angriffe im ersten Satz werden erfolgreich beendet, vor allem Shootingstar Jannis Herr (18) ist frühmorgens wieder hellwach, genau wie Kapitän Robin John (33) im Spezialisten-Trikot und Timo Günther (26).

Der zweite Satz ist supereng, obwohl Deutschland dank Ebert wieder einen Traumstart erwischt, doch beim 14:14 schafft Dänemark den Ausgleich. Unsere Beach-Boys bleiben aber cool, gehen wieder in Führung und geben sie nicht mehr.
Die Deutschen haben dabei auch ein wenig Glück: Beim Treffer zum 8:6 ist der Ball eigentlich schon verloren, springt in den Torraum, wo kein Angreifer mehr an die Kugel darf. Aber weil Beachhandball eben im Sand gespielt wird, gibt es Unebenheiten – der Ball wird beim Auftitschen so krass abgelenkt, dass er direkt Lars Zelser in die Arme fällt, der eiskalt einschraubt.

Keine Frage: Diese Leistung ist ein Statement der deutschen Beach-Boys, die im Titelkampf ein Wörtchen mitreden werden.
