Right after that play, Flagg hit a smooth step-back jumper and followed it up with the biggest highlight of the game. Flagg called it one of the worst games of his life. But with 10 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, 3 steals, and the game-saving block, fans weren’t buying the modesty. Social media exploded, praising his court vision, effort, and maturity. At just 18 years old, Cooper is already proving he belongs.
Cooper gets praise from coach and former owner
Cooper Flagg‘s flashes of greatness Thursday night got coaches and former owner Mark Cuban excited about the Dallas Mavericks‘ future. “He just makes the right play over and over again,” said Josh Broghamer, an assistant to Jason Kidd who is serving as summer league head coach.
“That’s what he does. He makes winning plays whether it’s offense or defense. That’s as advertised, whether it’s the right pass or it’s a defensive possession or scoring the ball, that’s what he does. So that’s not a surprise to any of us who have seen him the last couple days.”
Meanwhile, Cuban was ecstatic over Flagg’s first Mavericks‘ game. But he believes the best part of Flagg‘s presence with the team will be that, even as a No. 1 draft pick, he won’t have to be “The Man” right away. “You got multiple hall of fame players,” the business man said, ticking off Irving, Klay Thompson and Anthony Davis as Flagg‘s teammates. “Who gets to be mentored like that?
