We’re just over a month away from Arch Manning’s debut as the starting quarterback for the Texas Longhorns – and it’s no small stage, as they’ll be facing none other than Ohio State, the current champions of college football. Quite the opening for the nephew of Eli and Peyton Manning, both legends of the NCAA and the NFL.
Arch Manning unveils his deadly weapon to become an unstoppable force in the National Championship
Despite having all the pressure on him, Arch Manning has been waiting a long time for this moment. He spent two years on the bench behind Quinn Ewers, who is now in the NFL and currently fighting for a spot with the Miami Dolphins.
Last year, Ewers struggled with injuries, and Manning had several opportunities to get on the field. In fact, he started two games and was able to showcase his talent. But now, starting from that very first game against the Buckeyes on August 30, all eyes from fans and the media will be on him.
Arch Manning was asked about pursuing the Heisman Trophy
This year, there are many talented quarterbacks in the NCAA aiming to make a strong impression ahead of the next NFL Draft. However, the conversation seems to center solely around Arch Manning. In fact, we don’t even know if he’ll declare for the NFL in 2026 – and yet, he’s already the betting favorite to be the number one overall pick.
But that’s not all. Arch Manning appeared at SEC Media Days and was asked whether he’s aiming for the Heisman Trophy – the award given to the best college football player in the country – a question he answered perfectly.
“I’m not sure how they get these opinions, I’ve only played what, two games?” Manning said. “It’s nice of them to say, but it doesn’t mean anything. Talk is cheap – I gotta go prove it.”
So there’s a long road ahead, and it’s not just about that opening game against Ohio State on August 30. The real test will be every single game he plays. Every success Manning has will be praised – and every mistake will be magnified. That’s why this season is shaping up to be one of the most entertaining in recent memory for one of the most hyped prospects the NCAA has ever seen.
