SPORT BILD: Herr Doll, sieben Jahre hat der HSV für die Rückkehr in die Bundesliga gebraucht. Wird der Traditionsklub dafür gleich nach Wiederaufstieg die Überraschung der Saison?
Thomas Doll (59): Mal langsam. Mit diesem Gedanken darf sich niemand beim HSV befassen. Das kann nämlich ganz schnell nach hinten losgehen. Es ist ohnehin unglaublich, was in Hamburg los ist.
Was meinen Sie?
Als ich kurz nach dem Aufstieg durch die Stadt gelaufen bin, habe ich gedacht: Hier ist eine Stimmung, als wenn der HSV gerade Meister oder Champions-League-Sieger geworden wäre. Sieben Jahre zweite Liga – das war einfach langweilig für Hamburg. Aber der HSV hat einige Spieler, die nur die zweite Liga kennen. Von denen kann man nicht erwarten, dass sie jetzt noch einmal einen Riesensprung machen.

Also Abstiegskampf vom ersten Spieltag an?
Entscheidend wird sein, in den ersten Spielen ein paar Punkte zu holen, damit man nicht gleich ängstlich wird. Erfahrung im Kader ist dafür wichtig.
Der langjährige Leipzig-Stürmer Yussuf Poulsen bringt viel Erfahrung mit.
Poulsen ist ein Mentalitätsspieler, der immer vorneweg marschiert. Die dänischen Spieler haben grundsätzlich eine fantastische Mentalität. Poulsen wird sich voll reinhängen und die Fans werden ihn lieben für seine Art Fußball zu spielen. Mit Profis wie ihm und Nicolás Capaldo (kam von RB Salzburg; d. Red.) wird der Kader qualitativ aufgewertet. Das ist entscheidend, um gegen die anderen Mannschaften zu bestehen. Die Wucht von Fans und Verein ist natürlich riesig, aber sie allein hält dich nicht in der Bundesliga.
Welchem Spieler aus dem aktuellen Kader trauen Sie den großen Durchbruch in der Bundesliga zu?
Ich finde Emir Sahiti sehr interessant. Wie er zuletzt auf der rechten Seite gewirbelt hat, hat mich beeindruckt. Sahiti ist mit 26 im besten Fußballer-Alter und hat überragende Qualitäten am Ball, ist dribbelstark, technisch top. Dazu sind Spieler, die vom Balkan kommen (Sahiti ist Kosovare), für eine Top-Mentalität bekannt, brennen immer, geben nie auf. Sahiti ist ein Klasse-Fußballer, und das kommt ihm in der Bundesliga natürlich zugute. Der Junge kann die Hamburger Überraschung der Saison werden.

Auf welche Spieler kommt es noch an?
Ich hoffe, Robert Glatzel zeigt Fußball-Deutschland, dass er nicht nur ein überragender Zweitliga-Knipser ist. Ich hoffe, er erleidet nicht dasselbe Schicksal wie Simon Terodde, der in der Bundesliga nie so treffsicher und wertvoll für seine Klubs war wie in der zweiten Liga. Wichtig ist aber auch, dass Glatzel von seinen Kollegen in eine gute Position gebracht wird.
Was meinen Sie genau?
Das Problem ist ja: Wenn du als Aufsteiger gegen Top-Teams wie Bayern oder Dortmund spielst, hast du vielleicht 25 Prozent Ballbesitz. Dann sind die Stürmer wie Glatzel 50 Meter vom gegnerischen Kasten entfernt, weil die Mannschaft erst mal ihr eigenes Tor verteidigen muss. Der Weg nach vorn bei Ballbesitz ist dann sehr lang, gerade gegen Gegner, die hoch pressen und um den Strafraum ihr Spiel aufbauen. Daher brauchst du überragende Fußballer im Mittelfeld und auf den Flügeln, die den Ball zirkulieren lassen und ein Powerplay aufbauen – damit du eben nicht permanent weit weg vom gegnerischen Tor bist. Ansonsten verpuffen diese typischen Strafraumstürmer wie Glatzel.
[–>Sie haben den HSV 2006 in die Champions League geführt, nachdem Sie die Mannschaft in der Vorsaison auf Platz 18 übernommen hatten – und haben eine Riesen-Euphorie rund um den Klub entfacht. Was halten Sie von Ihrem Nachfolger Merlin Polzin, der nach dem Aufstieg ebenfalls ein HSV-Held ist?
Zum Glück war dieses Jahr ein Trainer da, der ruhig und cool geblieben ist in der Endphase. Im Frühling hat der HSV in den Vorjahren oft den Aufstieg vermasselt. Polzin hat die Spieler nach Niederlagen wieder eingefangen und auf Linie gebracht. Hut ab vor dieser Leistung eines so jungen Trainers. Als er im Dezember Cheftrainer wurde, hatte ich Bedenken.
Wieso genau?
Ich hatte Zweifel, ob ein 34-Jähriger ohne Erfahrung als Cheftrainer im Profi-Bereich dieses zuvor immer wieder gescheiterte Unternehmen Aufstieg hinbekommt. Aber die Entscheider im Verein haben ihn zuvor jahrelang jeden Tag als Co-Trainer (von Tim Walter und Steffen Baumgart) an der Seitenlinie gesehen und gewusst: Ja, das ist unser Mann, der kann es packen. Für diesen Mut, für dieses Risiko ist der HSV zum Glück belohnt worden. Polzin lebt diesen Klub, ist damit groß geworden, stand früher selbst im Fan-Block, hat eine außergewöhnliche Verbindung. Polzin und die Mannschaft müssten den HSV deutschlandweit wieder ins richtige Rampenlicht rücken.

Nö.
Wirklich nicht?
Ich hatte eine fantastische Zeit beim HSV. Vor ein paar Jahren gab es Kontakt, da habe ich gedacht: „Das könnte noch mal was für dich sein.“ Es wurde aber nichts draus. Jetzt bin ich nicht so vermessen zu denken, dass die Bundesliga auf Thomas Doll wartet. Aber wenn mich ein Profi-Klub braucht – ich bin bereit für einen neuen Job.
Würden Sie nach Ihrem freiwilligen Abschied aus Jakarta vor einem Jahr erneut einen Job im Ausland annehmen?
Ja. Es gab interessante Angebote und Anfragen aus Polen, Tschechien, Katar und Bahrain. Ich bin mental und körperlich topfit. Ich gehe fünfmal pro Woche ins Gym – und brauche den Wettkampf.
