Nach 13 Jahren bei Real Madrid mit einer unvergleichbaren Titelsammlung schlägt Mittelfeldstar Luka Modric noch einmal ein neues Kapitel in seiner einzigartigen Karriere auf. Mit 39 Jahren wechselt der Kroate von Spanien nach Italien, heuert bei der AC Mailand an.
Angebote hatte der Weltfußballer von 2018 viele. Jetzt erklärt Modric, warum für ihn aber nur ein Wechsel nach Italien zu Milan infrage kam.
Modric: Darum wollte ich nur zu Milan
„Als Kind habe ich viel Serie A geschaut, und Milan war mein Lieblingsverein, auch weil mein Idol Zvonimir Boban dort spielte. Ich hatte andere Angebote, aber als Milan anrief, war mir das klar. Ich wollte von Anfang an zu ihnen“, gestand der kroatische Nationalspieler gegenüber Milan TV.
[–>Mit den „Königlichen“ gewann Modric sechsmal die Champions League, holte vier spanische Meisterschaften. Diese Erfolgs-DNA will er auch Milan wieder einpflanzen.
„Mailand kann sich nicht mit Mittelmäßigkeit zufriedengeben. Wir müssen uns die ehrgeizigsten Ziele setzen: Titel gewinnen und mit den besten Teams der Welt konkurrieren“, fügte der Mittelfeld-Routinier an.
Aber: Die Mailänder haben eine schwere Saison in den Knochen. In der Serie A landete der Klub nur auf dem achten Platz, verpasste damit das internationale Geschäft. Mit Modric soll auch der Erfolg zurückkehren.
Auch für den Kroaten wird das ein Neuanfang – nach 13 Jahren bei Real. Und: Er wird bei Milan nicht wie gewohnt mit der Rückennummer 10 auflaufen. In Italien spielt er zukünftig mit der Nummer 14.

Modric über seine Nummernwahl: „Mir gefällt diese Nummer. Ich weiß, dass in Mailand die 10 von einem großartigen Spieler wie Leao getragen wird. Er ist die Gegenwart und die Zukunft von Mailand. Da die 10 nicht verfügbar war, musste ich eine andere wählen.“
Und weiter: „Ich habe mich für die 14 entschieden, weil sie mir gefällt; ich habe sie auch in der Nationalmannschaft, zu Beginn meiner Karriere und bei Tottenham getragen. Ich habe sie mitgebracht und hoffe, dass sie auch hier gut funktioniert.“
