Grammy Award-winning rapper Cardi Bis facing legal action related to an incident that occurred during a 2023 concert in Las Vegas.
According to a report published by TMZ, the artist, whose real name is Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, is being sued for assault and battery after allegedly throwing a microphone into the crowd and striking an audience member.
The civil suit has been filed by a woman who attended the performance. The plaintiff alleges that Cardi B became upset after water was thrown on her from the crowd and responded by throwing a handheld microphone, which hit the woman.
The lawsuit claims the rapper had previously instructed audience members to splash water on her to help cool her down in the high temperatures. The woman contends that she was following the artist’s request when the incident took place.
“Several individuals in the crowd participated after the performer invited them to throw water,” the complaint states.
“However, when the plaintiff did the same, she was unexpectedly struck by a microphone thrown from the stage.”
Police opened an investigation
The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department reportedly opened an investigation into the matter shortly after the incident occurred.
At the time, authorities concluded their inquiry without pressing criminal charges against the rapper. However, the civil lawsuit now brings renewed attention to the case.
The timing of the legal filing coincides with a critical moment in Cardi B‘s career. The rapper is preparing to release her long-anticipated second studio album, titled Am I The Drama?, which is scheduled to debut on September 19.
In a recent announcement, Cardi B described the project as a personal body of work reflecting the past seven years of her life, focusing on themes such as love, personal growth, and loss.
The album marks her first full-length release since her 2018 debut Invasion of Privacy, which earned her a Grammy Award and solidified her position in the mainstream music industry.
In addition to her music career, Cardi B has remained in the public spotlight for her personal life, including her reported relationship with New England Patriots wide receiver Stefon Diggs.
The rapper has not issued a public statement addressing the recent lawsuit, and her legal representatives have yet to respond to the allegations. No official court date has been set.
Legal experts note that while no criminal charges were pursued initially, a civil suit can still proceed if a plaintiff believes they suffered physical or emotional harm.
The outcome of such cases often hinges on available evidence, including video footage, eyewitness testimony, and documentation of injuries.
Cardi B remains one of the most prominent figures in contemporary hip-hop, and the pending legal matter may draw increased public and media scrutiny as the release date of her upcoming album approaches.
Whether the lawsuit will impact her promotional activities or future public appearances remains to be seen.
As the case develops, further updates are expected to emerge regarding court proceedings and any official responses from Cardi B‘s legal team.
