It’s almost impossible to do what Saquon Barkley did in 2024. In his first season with a new team, Barkley ran for over 2,000 yards – becoming only the 9th player in football history to do so – and won the Super Bowl with the Philadelphia Eagles. It’s not common for players to perform so well immediately in a new environment, but that’s especially true for a running back with plenty of tread on his tires. Barkley showed he’s still in his prime despite a couple of underwhelming final seasons with the New York Giants.
Heading into 2025, there’s no telling what Barkley can accomplish. He likely won’t get the same type of workload he did in 2024, but if he does, the sky is once again the limit in an elite offensive environment behind an elite offensive line. Running backs in their late 20s and early 30s are still dominating the position, with Christian McCaffrey and Derrick Henry joining Barkley as the NFL’s cream of the crop. But there are young players nipping at their heels, and Barkley knows it.

Saquon Barkley says no one can “cut like Bijan Robinson” in the whole NFL
So much so that he has practically crowned his successor already. As part of the NFL Top 100 rankings, Barkley appeared to give his thoughts on Atlanta Falcons running back Bijan Robinson, who came in at No. 62. In Barkley’s mind, Robinson is already the best “cutter” among all running backs in the league, even better than himself.
“There’s nobody who’s able to cut like Bijan in the NFL. There’s not… Trust me, I love myself and I think I have great cuts, and there’s nobody… So it’s finna get scary for a lot of people as he continues to figure it out.“
Robinson flashed glimpses of greatness during his rookie season, but he really took off in 2024, putting together a season with 1,887 total yards and 15 touchdowns, with 61 receptions to boot. Along with Jahmyr Gibbs of the Detroit Lions, they are the real threats to the podium of the best running backs in the NFL, putting Barkley, Henry and McCaffrey on notice.
Behind them is Ashton Jeanty, the Las Vegas Raiders rookie who is coming in with sky-high expectations after a legendary career at Boise State.
