Speculation is intensifying that Deion Sanders‘ could quit the University of Colorado as he prepares to hold a press conference alongside his medical team on the opening day of the Buffaloes‘ fall football camp.
The announcement, which came amid his prolonged absence from the college program due to a mysterious health condition, has fueled rumors that the third-year head coach could be planning his departure.

The 56-year-old has spent much of the offseason at his Texas ranch rather than in Boulder, away from his usual duties such as recruiting and team preparation as he battles an undisclosed illness.
While he has returned to Colorado, uncertainty continues to surround his long-term plans, especially in light of his health challenges and the unusual timing of the press conference.
One fan wrote online, “They’re announcing a press conference with the medical team-people are nervous.”
A second added, “His way out of CU is being laid.”
A third bluntly said, “I believe it’s called the Urban Meyer exit plan.”
Sanders gives health update amid Buffaloes exit fears
Sanders has been grappling with significant medical issues in recent years, including blood clots that led to the amputation of multiple toes, and at one point, he narrowly avoided losing his entire foot.
These ongoing complications, coupled with a lack of transparency regarding his current condition, have only deepened speculation that he might be preparing for an early exit from college football, despite his successes.
Although Sanders did attempt to reassure fans that he’s up to the task, he did admit that his health problems haven’t been entirely vaniquished and he’s still fighting off some lingering effects.
“I’m already back… I look forward to it,” Sanders told ESPN’s Pete Thamel. “I can’t wait. You’ve got to understand, some of the young men I haven’t even met yet.”
Fans are divided as some believe his health challenges are the primary factor, while others think he may have always intended to make a short stop in Boulder-just long enough to coach his sons, Shedeur and Shilo to the NFL.
Historically, rumors have linked Sanders to larger coaching jobs, including potential positions in the NFL or at major collegiate programs. However, he turned them down to stay at Folsom Field.
And insiders suggest that if he steps away now, it won’t be to take another job-it will be to prioritize his health, particularly as he has grandfather duties to think about following the birth of Snow to his daughter, Deiondra.
Regardless, with fall camp beginning, the timing is critical. If Sanders steps down or announces an extended leave, it would mark a major shift for the Colorado football program, which has been rebuilt around his leadership. Will he stick or quit?
