The annual Madden NFL ratings reveal week has officially kicked off, and for Cowboys Nation, it’s already sparking outrage! Despite being widely regarded as the NFL’s premier pass rusher and one of its top defenders, superstar Micah Parsons was conspicuously absent from the exclusive “99 Club.”
The “99 Club” is the pinnacle of virtual football excellence, reserved for only a handful of players who achieve the highest possible rating in EA Sports’ long-running “Madden” video game franchise.
Since Madden 2002, no more than seven players have earned this coveted initial 99 rating in a single season. For Madden NFL 26, the lone defensive player to achieve the perfect score was Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett, leaving Cowboys fans bewildered and frustrated.
When fiction equals reality
For many, this video game snub feels eerily familiar to the real-life situation surrounding Parsons’ contract negotiations, where the Dallas Cowboys front office has seemingly dragged its feet in getting a long-term deal done.
The message from EA Sports seems to be a harsh reminder: video games, much like contract talks, are not always a reflection of reality.
The full, elite roster of players inducted into the Madden NFL 26 “99 Club” includes:
- Philadelphia Eagles offensive tackle Lane Johnson
- Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson
- Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase
- Philadelphia Eagles running back Saquon Barkley
- Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson
- Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen
- Cleveland Browns pass rusher Myles Garrett
Fans aren’t happy, but they’re still waiting for the release date
While the honor is exclusive, the omission of a player of Parsons’ caliber, especially given his consensus standing as the league’s best at his position, is already fueling intense debate across social media. Fans are questioning how a player with his dominant on-field production could be left out of such a prestigious group.
Madden NFL 26 is set to hit shelves worldwide on Thursday, August 14, 2025, for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S. Despite the current controversy, the game’s release is highly anticipated, though the “99 Club” snub is sure to be a major talking point among gamers and NFL fans alike.
