Ende des vergangenen Jahres hat Pep Guardiola (54) seinen Vertrag bei Manchester City um zwei Jahre bis 2027 verlängert. Zuvor hatte der Spanier mit einem Abschied geliebäugelt, am Ende blieb der Star-Trainer den Cityzens jedoch vorerst erhalten.

Jetzt äußert sich Guardiola zu seiner Zukunft – und verkündet eine endgültige Entscheidung.

[–>Im Interview mit der spanischen „GQ“ sagt Pep: „Ich weiß, dass ich nach dieser Phase bei City aufhören werde, das ist sicher. Es ist entschieden, sogar mehr als entschieden.“

Wann das genau sein wird, lässt der Spanier offen. Sein Vertrag läuft noch bis 2027.

Und was kommt nach dem City-Abschied? Abstand vom Fußball!

Guardiola enthüllt: „Wie lange ich eine Pause machen werde, weiß ich nicht. Ein Jahr, zwei Jahre, drei, fünf, zehn, 15 – ich habe keinen Plan. Aber ich weiß, dass ich eine Pause machen muss, um mich auf mich selbst und meinen Körper zu konzentrieren.“

Auf die Frage, wie belastend der Trainer-Job bei City ist, sagt der Star-Coach: „Wenn es schlecht läuft, sind die Nächte härter, der Alltag ist härter. Die Arbeit als Trainer, und ich spreche hier nicht nur von mir, sondern von allen meinen Kollegen, ist rund um die Uhr, sieben Tage die Woche. Andernfalls kommst du nicht weiter. Der Druck, der auf dir lastet, ist sehr groß, und du brauchst Menschen, die dir helfen.“

Guardiola zu seinem körperlichen Zustand: „Ich bin völlig am Ende, alles tut mir gerade weh.“

[–>Die Pause hat sich Guardiola sicherlich mehr als verdient. Seit seiner ersten Trainerstation beim FC Barcelona hat der Spanier fast keine Pause eingelegt. Nach seinem Barça-Abschied 2012 wechselte er nach einem einjährigen Sabbatical 2013 zum FC Bayern. Bis 2016 war er Trainer der Münchner, direkt darauf übernahm er das Amt bei City.

In seiner finalen Phase als Manchester-Trainer wird Guardiola jetzt nochmal alles geben. Nach der enttäuschenden vergangenen Spielzeit (frühes Aus in den Playoffs der Champions League, Final-Pleite im FA Cup gegen Crystal Palace und Platz drei in der Premier League) soll es in der nächsten Saison wieder besser laufen. Die Premier League startet am 16. August.
