Nachfolger Alex Mumbru (46/Spanien) setzt für die Vorbereitung auf Sonne. Vom trüben München fliegt das Team nach einer Nacht in München am Mittwoch nach Malaga. Statt 20 Grad und Regen sind im Süden Spaniens 29 Grad und Sonne vorhergesagt!

Der neue Bundestrainer Mumbru war als Spieler selbst Welt- und Europameister, tritt nach dem WM-Titel 2023 und Bronze bei der Heim-EM 2022 aber ein schweres Erbe an. „Natürlich treten wir an, um eine Medaille zu gewinnen“, sagte der ehemalige Flügelspieler. Betonte aber auch: „Das Ziel ist, dass wir uns gut vorbereiten und in der besten Form zu sein, wenn wir loslegen. Die Jungs haben eine gute Team-Chemie – das müssen wir fortsetzen. Und es ist wichtig, zusammenzufinden und auf eine gute Weise zu arbeiten.“
Dass das klappt, daran hat Bayerns Weltmeister Johannes Voigtmann (32) keinen Zweifel: „Wir gehen mit den höchsten Ambitionen da rein. Wir haben ein richtig gutes Team. Wir haben das Herzstück beisammengehalten. Aber wir werden jetzt nicht mit dem Mindset da reingehen: Okay, wir beschäftigen uns nur mit dem Finale. Auf gar keinen Fall!“
Nach dem Trainingslager in Malaga steht am 8. August der erste Härtetest gegen Slowenien mit NBA-Star Luka Doncic (26/Los Angeles Lakers) an. Der Supercup in München (15./16.8.) ist die Generalprobe. Die EM-Vorrunde steigt für die DBB-Auswahl dann in Tampere/Finnland. Die Gegner in Gruppe B sind Montenegro (27.8.), Schweden (29.8.), Litauen (30.8.), England (1.9.) und Gastgeber Finnland (3.9., alle Partien live bei MagentaSport).
