Auf der Handballplatte ist Patrick Wiencek nun Geschichte.
Der Kreisläufer des THW Kiel beendete seine ruhmreiche Karriere. Und er hinterlässt nicht nur sportliche Spuren. Denn in seinen 13 Jahren im Trikot der Zebras sind letztlich 135 000 Euro an Spendengeldern zugunsten der Kinderkrebsstation des Uni-Klinikums Schleswig-Holstein zusammengekommen.
Handball: Jedes Wiencek-Tor für den THW Kiel half krebskranken Kindern
Möglich machte es diese Spielerpatenschaft: Für jedes Bundesligator von Wiencek (es waren am Ende über 1000) spendete Kiel-Hauptsponsor ORLEN Deutschland 100 Euro. Durch zusätzliche Spenden kam am Ende die Summe von 135 000 Euro zustande.

Wienek sagt glücklich: „Es ist unglaublich, wieviel wir gemeinsam in den Jahren bewegt haben. Mein Dank geht an alle, die diese einmalige Aktion 2012 ins Leben gerufen, seitdem unterstützt und somit ermöglicht haben. Bei jedem Besuch auf der Kinderkrebsstation des UKSH habe ich gespürt, wie wichtig dort allen unser Engagement ist. Wenn ich die schwerkranken Kinder und Jugendlichen gesehen habe, wurde mir immer wieder bewusst, wie privilegiert mein eigenes Leben ist. Ihnen zu helfen, hat mich immer mit Freude und Dankbarkeit erfüllt. Und ich bin begeistert, dass diese Aktion auch nach meinem Karriereende weitergeführt wird.“
