Angel Reese managed to become one of the most talked-about players on Tuesday without even logging a single minute of game action. Before the Chicago Sky tipped off against the Washington Mystics, she arrived at the arena wearing a simple combination of gray shorts, a blue hoodie and headphones.
It was a noticeable shift from her usual pregame fashion choices, which often make waves on social media.
A video of the Sky’s entrance that evening captured Reese walking behind teammate Rachel Banham just after Hailey Van Lith passed the camera. Once Reese spotted the lens, she playfully tried to shield herself behind Banham until she was out of frame. That quick moment instantly went viral online and triggered a storm of reactions from fans.
“Look she trying to dress down now,” one fan wrote on X, poking fun at her understated outfit. Another viewer turned the joke toward the Sky’s recent struggles, commenting, “Getting ready for another L.”
The clip quickly became one of the most discussed moments from the team’s arrival, even overshadowing some of the actual pregame coverage.
Health concerns take center stage during shootaround
What started as lighthearted chatter around Reese’s clothing soon turned into a more serious conversation. Later during warmups, cameras picked up the Chicago forward wearing a back support belt while going through the team’s shootaround routine.
Reese has been managing a lingering back injury for much of the season and her limited movement raised immediate concerns about her status going forward.
This season has been a tough stretch for Chicago. Already battling to stay relevant in the playoff race, the Sky desperately need Reese on the floor to stabilize their lineup. At just 22, she has already become a cornerstone of the franchise and a dominant force on the glass.
Her absence in key games has been felt, and the sight of her wearing additional support during warmups sparked worry among fans and analysts.
